There are people here who probably can't differentiate between a MIG and a Mirage, yet they are adamant to form opinion on PAF.
Traditionally, the PAF has been geared to meet the challenge from East, it may not be able to withstand the might of a super power but rest assured, even the American are well aware that if there is a confrontation, it's not going to be exactly a walk in the park. In any case, a face off is highly unlikely since there is evidently an agreement in upper echelons of power.

Hi, let's be serious here. The PAF will challenge IAF assets, but would not even dream of touching a US drone, etc. Why? Pakistan depends on US aid and the US vote in the IMF and World Bank. Pakistan is not financially independent.

Let's consider if the PAF decided to shoot down a US drone. The US would cut off aid, cut off spares for the PAF's F-16s, P-3 Orions, Oliver Hazard Frigate, radars, TOW missiles, AMRAAMs, sidewinders, etc. They would also probably slap sanctions on it, and force the IMF and World Bank to cut-off loans. As a consequence, the Pakistani rupee and its economy would tank in no time.

So yes, the PAF physically can shoot down US drones, but would not even dare because of the repercussions. Moreover, the next day F-18s and F-15s would be escorting these drones, and then the PAF would really have to back down.

To defend Pakistan, if PAF needs to take on F-15's and F-18's then so be it! And if that does indeed happen then PAF should take out the air fields from where these Jets take off. I am sure that those site would be very lightly defended against air attacks because the US does not expect any air resistance in Afghanistan.

I mean there must be a line that even the US would not dare cross! At the same time Pakistan must be ready to cross every line to ensure it's survival.

You do not understand that we are constantly being touched by the US, how long before the US starts operations in Quetta, than Hyderabad and finally Karachi? How long must we wait patiently? Can we live forever if we bow down to the US? If a full fledged war is the only solution than lets see how long the US ground forces can stay in Pakistan against 180 million hostile Pakistanis!

Read your response, but my dear why do we consider our airforce any viable and effective force? Just based upon one sided version of ISPR/ our pathetic media. May be it was good (Long time back) but it isn't any more. What do you expect from a force whose Air Chief was appointed after jumping over the head of a deserving, able Officer who was not appointed as he was an obstacle in the eyes of our masters and in place of him this inefficient/ apple polisher was appointed.
History of our airforce is full of biasedness/ misfortunes e.g. M.M Alam was ignored because he was a staunch muslim and had objected to no. of ills adopted & practiced by our great defenders of pak sky. A squadron leader who left two of his mates during a dog fight in east pakistan war of 1971 and was awarded a gallantry medal on the recommendation of then air commodore of the eastern side who was the responsible officer who left 14 aircrafts at Dacca airforce partially damaged despite instructions to destroy of which Bangladesh Airforce used 5 after the war. Please open your mind and grow up see also the other side of the picture. If they are so capable enough why till now no forces guys have stood-up and taken any action as we well know all our politicans are baseless/ not sincere with Pakistan at all.

Sorry was really annoyed with guys who are still dreaming of our forces & agencies to do something, which I believe will never happen (EXCEPT FOR SOME MOAJZA)

let it be like that. Let the sanctions be imposed on Pak, let the spare part sale for the radars, F-16s and Frigates be banned to pakistan, let the IMF and world bank not give the loans, let them turn down the coalation support fund bills. There is NOT a good news for pakistan than this, trust me. Right now when all the funding is not reaching the general public / massess of pakistan, nobody cares for that except those politicians who are enjoying the feast. Atleast Pakistan would then know who the real enemy is.

Remember Pakistan built nukes when there were brown and pressler sanctions imposed on pakistan..

My dear, instead of going into all the detail, a little knowledge on Shahid Latif's medical condition would save the dilemma.
I don't buy what the media writes or the ISPR hand outs, rather I listen to and believe the people who do matter.

the question is very simple - in 2002 it was a mil-govt. anything crossing the eastern border will get a immediate response (SOP) - now we have a'civilian' set-up. the govt in power has to give the order - "it can be a standing order" similar to the SOP on the eastern border and the PAF will respond - but lets be 'prepared' for the repurcussions!!!

Interesting to note your response. Brother still it does not justify as to why this idiot was appointed as an Air Chief? Besides it what about some examples quoted in my comments?. I know you may say that you have info from the guys on the ground but simply can't accept pathetic clarifications from the Airforce personnel where PAF & its so acclaimed personnel's 'role/ conduct/ abilities' itself are under question.
