Pakistan army jets kills suspected Taliban, say military officials.
KARACHI, Pakistan – At least 44 suspected Taliban have been killed in aerial strikes carried out by Pakistan army jets in North Waziristan and Khyber Agency tribal areas, according to Pakistan army officials.
“Twenty eight terrorists were killed in the remote Tirah valley of Kyber Agency while 16, mostly foreigners, were targeted in Datta Khel town near Afghanistan border,” Pakistan army’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.
North Waziristan and Khyber Agency are two of the seven semi-autonomous tribal areas of Pakistan and have been a battleground between the army and Taliban militants since June 15, 2014, following a full-scale operation against Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a coalition of different insurgent groups in Pakistan.
The latest casualties put the militants’ death toll at nearly 2,600, while more than 100 soldiers have also been killed in the ongoing operation.
The military operation has displaced nearly 1.5 million tribesmen from North Waziristan and Khyber Agency.
