SC stays Supreme Judicial Council proceedings

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court larger bench Monday issued stay order for suspending the proceedings of the Supreme Judicial Council. The bench has also ordered formation of a full court bench and referred the constitutional petition of the chief justice to the full court
.

The counsel of the chief justice, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has said: “It was our stand from very first day that the proceedings of the Supreme Judicial Council are unlawful and unconstitutional and the Supreme Court verdict has backed our contention.”

The counsel of federation Malik Abdul Qayyum said that they have no objection over the decision taken by the Supreme Court. The lawyer of the president Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada made no comments on the apex court decision.

The Supreme Court five-member larger bench headed by Justice M Javed Buttar heard the constitutional petitions related to the presidential reference and challenge the suspension of chief justice, his forced leave, and composition and competence of the Supreme Judicial Council.

Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan was representing the chief justice in the hearing, while Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada and Malik Qayyum appearing on behalf of the President and the federation respectively.

Heavy contingents of police were deployed within and outside of the Supreme Court building during the hearing.

If there was a thing such as law in Pakistan this would not have happened the Dictatorship in Islamabad has made the Law into a mock this very sad.
