  • Fazl asks why govt should talk with “someone who bankrupted country”.
  • Asks SC not to disrespect Parliament resolution.
  • Asks ECP not to show any weakness in court.
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Amid the call for talks among politicians, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday said that the Supreme Court rather than “uniting” is “pressurising” politicians to unite.
The JUI-F chief’s statement comes as the ruling alliance attempts to convince Fazl to hold talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan. The push also comes after the Supreme Court asked the government to hold talks with the PTI chief on elections.
“We do not agree with the reasoning and philosophy being given for holding talks with Imran Khan right now,” Fazl told Geo News. He also wondered why the government should “bow down” to the PTI chief and hold talks with “someone who bankrupted the country”.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) president also asked the Supreme Court not to disrespect the Parliament’s resolution regarding the release of funds for the Punjab elections. He also asked the politicians to tell the Supreme Court, respectfully, that they do trust them.
“It is a matter of concern and shock that the Supreme Court is completely divided today. Supreme Court rather than uniting is pressurising politicians to unite,” said the JUI-F chief. He also asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) not to show any weakness in court.
In the recently held fiery press conference against the Supreme Court, the JUI-F chief had said that he stands by every word he said.

CJP's actions imposed 'judicial martial law : Fazl

Last week, in a press conference, the JUI-F chief said the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) "usurped" the powers of the ECP as well as parliament and the government, creating a "judicial martial law" like situation in the country.
The PDM chef had also accused CJP Umar Ata Bandial of meddling with the appointment of the apex court's registrar, a task that the government is supposed to carry out.
Fazl went on to say that only the parliament was authorised to conduct the legislation but the top judge had formed a bench even before the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023 had been enacted.
"Constitutionally, powers were divided between all institutions, and no institution should interfere in the jurisdiction of another," he added.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN (Dunya News) – Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman opposed on Sunday the negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan.

Speaking to media, Mr Rehman schooled the deposed premier, accusing the latter of dragging the country into the quagmire of default. "Right now, we don’t believe in the philosophy and arguments of negotiating with Imran Khan," he added.

Continuing to slam Mr Khan, Mr Fazl said, "Why will we have to bow before anybody else. Imran continued to change tactics. He had to face the setback with his long march and court arrest drive".

"In the political crisis, the Supreme Court (SC) has emerged as the complete party, which has to stay out of politics. The political leaders should inform the top court for lacking trust on the apex court with due respect. Despite the fact that the apex court is divided today, it is stressing the need to unite the political leaders." he maintained.

On Thursday, Mr Rehman slammed on Thursday Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, saying negotiating with the latter was an insult to parliament.

Addressing a press conference, Mr Fazl said, "The court should clarify its position on whether it is Panchayat or court for real. The court is asking the PDM to hold talks with Imran Khan. The entire process has been declared non-political. For how long will we be blackmailed by such matters?

"From which person should we negotiate? If Imran Khan really wanted the elections, why did he not announce the date for the polls when he was in power", he lamented.

Taking a swipe at Mr Khan, Mr Fazl said, "This person was of the view that if he did not get the two-thirds majority, he would not accept the results of the elections. Talking to him is like feeling the contempt of the whole political system and the entire parliament. We do not see an inept person like him in terms of holding negotiations. We want Imran Khan out of the country’s circle".

Mr Fazl rued," For the sake of providing protection to one person, the entire nation has been insulted."

"Undoubtedly, the nation is dragged into a quagmire. With the depreciation of the rupee, even the cost to perform Haj has increased," he maintained.

Speaking about the death of former federal minister Mufti Abdul Shakoor, Mr Fazl said, "The martyrdom of Mufti Abdul Shakoor is an accident."
