LAHORE: The State Bank of Pakistan has found no bank accounts of the key suspect in Zainab rape and murder case, according to a report by a private media outlet.
According to the report, the central bank launched a probe into of multiple bank accounts allegedly held by the suspect Imran and found that no account was registered under the suspect’s name and CNIC data.
On the other hand, anchorperson Shahid Masood, who alleged that the suspect in Zainab’s case might have links within Punjab’s provincial administration and owned multiple bank accounts, on Friday skipped the session of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe rape and murder of a seven-year-old Zainab.
The anchor was summoned by the team along with all the evidence he has regarding arrested suspect Imran Ali, however, he was a no-show at the meeting.
Meanwhile, a notification issued a by the Punjab Home Department added two members to the JIT investigating the Zainab case, in light of new revelations that the suspect may hold several bank accounts to his name. The two new members were a senior officer of the State Bank of Pakistan and a director of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA).
The State Bank confirmed it had received a request from the joint investigation team (JIT) regarding reports by a private media house suggesting that the accused, Imran Ali Naqshbandi, held several bank accounts, including foreign accounts but after an investigation, it was revealed that no such accounts existed under the accused’s name.
The Punjab government is expected to hold a press conference regarding the matter later today.
Earlier on Wednesday night, anchorperson Shahid Masood, in his show alleged that Zainab’s suspected rapist and murderer was a member of an international pornography gang which also allegedly includes a Punjab minister. He further stated that the suspect in custody for the murder of Zainab and other children is not is not as simple as he seems rather, he is a “member of an international ring”.
The anchorperson further stated that the suspect has 37 foreign currency bank accounts and the backing of one of the country’s most important person and a minister.
The Supreme Court, during the suo motto hearing of the Zainab murder case, summoned television anchorperson Shahid Masood on Thursday to explain the details he had revealed regarding the key suspect in Zainab’s rape and murder case during his late-night show.
The three-judge bench, headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, watched footage of Masood’s TV show in court and asked Punjab Inspector General of Police Arif Nawaz Khan to probe the evidence provided by the anchorperson.
Similarly, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif had formed a six-member team after Shahid Masood’s show was aired.
