Jerusalem and Dar ul Salam have the same meaning? I am sorry this has nothing to do with topic just wanted to confirm something that I read in an interesting account.
Dar as-Salam means "Abode of Peace". Jerusalem is named after an old Canaanite (Semitic) deity named Shalim. The latter name derives from this ancient Semitic root.

So in a sense what you have heard is correct.
Anyway Jerusalem is called Al-Quds (The Holy One) and Bayt al-Maqdis (The Place Pure of Sin) in Arabic. Al-Quds is almost exclusively used nowadays.
