Saudi foreign minister arrives in Dhaka

That is why BD is paying them lip-service as regards these investment proposals.

While they should be wished well, let us not kid ourselves and think they are real and serious nation states like Turkey and Iran.

Turkey soon(5-10 years) and maybe Iran in the future once the world is multi-polar will be more important to BD than the Gulf Arabs for sure.

I think so in many ways.

The post Ukraine war world will be a far different place.

I really hope the violence ends but that a multipolar world will begin to be established.

The West CAN NOT have complete hegemony to export their agenda to the other peoples of the world.

We have seen that for the last few decades and hopefully that comes to an end soon.

The world needs balance.

And that gives smaller countries like Bangladesh options.

We are currently in a transition phase as China is able to semi-balance the Western hegemony.

Iran is being prevented from total economic collapse from Western sanctions due to China buying its oil and gas. This has also given India cover to do the same thing as India would never dare keep trading with Iran without China also doing so.

Hopefully within the next 15-20 years we see a multi-polar world with the USA and China as peers on both the economic and military fields and other regional power centres like Turkey and Iran emerging in the Muslim world.

BD has a great opportunity to develop itself in the current geopolitical enviroment and forge strong links with other like-minded Muslim nations.

Like everything in life you need a balance and we have not had this in centuries as Westerners have been dominant on this globe for around 500 years.

The Saudis are getting free lunch out of us though.

Yes, there are a few large companies owned by the SA govt. But, there are also hundreds others privately owned companies there.

I have not checked which types of these companies are interested to invest in BD. But my point is whatever may be the ownership category, a company cannot invest unless the infrastructures are built in the factories that I have mentioned in my previous post.

It is irrelevant if these are state or privately owned. So, why do you have to cite this tiny thing?

Name a single private Saudi company worth mentioning

Exactly. Like a Project Mgmt. team on a larger scale which plans strategies and executes them, I hope Bangladeshi political leaders of the future will heed the views of business leaders from the chambers and BGMEA type orgs and move toward securing our business interests at the international level with solid foreign policies centered on economic interest.

I already see BGMEA and the chambers move internationally and set up lobbying and MOU relationships with major int'l business and purchasing outfits overseas.

I agree the world will become multi-polar, but we must not allow ourselves to become wrapped up in any camp's political agenda that does not help us financially and/or improve our economy in any manner. Those who trust us as friends internationally (like China) will scarcely ever expect us to formally follow any specific political camp.

Hot air and chest-beating aside, one cannot deny that a significant amount of remittance does come from Saudi, but only because we have not provided enough jobs at home....

Your ignorance is excused. Google SABINCO and ARAMCO. Not all Saudi companies are "unmentionable".

Don't worry, no worth mentioning Saudi company has ever given me employment.

If you need one, please apply directly to a company of your choice instead of bickering here and trying to derail the thread.

Private enterprise in Saudi Arabia does not exist the way it exists even in Bangladesh. The state has its tentacles everywhere

The easiest field they can invest in is dairy. There’s practically no competition in Bangladesh and Almarai can capture local market with its wide range of products. But they won’t. They’ll declare billions to invest only to make a few terrorist factories and mosques
