Saudi Arabia to provide polio vaccine to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia has announced to provide ten million dosages of polio drops for the children of Pakistan.



The medicine has reached Pakistan and it would be handed over to the local authorities later this week. In a brief chat with The News acting Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Jasim Muhammad Al-Khaldi said Tuesday that it was the first consignment of the medicine that would be administered through staff dedicated by the government of Pakistan for the purpose.



Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz takes special care of Pakistan and its people. The polio drops are being provided under his instructions, he added.The provision of polio drops by the Saudi government establishes that nothing is part of the drops, which is forbidden in Islam. The decision of Saudi government to provide Pakistan polio drops would dispel the negative impression created by certain elements about the polio drops.


The administration of polio drops has got nothing to do with the religion. The Saudi authorities have kept the medicine under required temperature so that weather shouldn’t have any adverse effect on its quality.


In the meanwhile sources said that Saudi government had also decided to contribute sizeable relief package for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from North Waziristan Agency due to ongoing military operation against the terrorists.



Saudi administration is also consigning substantial Ramazan relief package for the needy in Pakistan. It is likely that the announcement pertaining to both the relief packages would be made later this week separately that would be followed immediate supplies, the sources indicated.

This polio drop saga was the left over curse of CIA operation to track OBL ... they were checking houses under the guise of a polio vaccination campaign to track OBL , and many people have doubts now when such teams go door to door to vaccinate kids ... while I am no religious fanatic i feel CIA must be cursed forever for using the cover of a vaccination campaign to further their operations ...this is sick .

Don't rewrite history and blame everything on the CIA. Polio has been wiped out in most of the planet with Afghanistan and Pakistan being the last main hotspots. The reason being LONG standing mistrust of the vaccine (polio vaccinations started in 1974 and a big drive around 1993) If there wasn't mistrust it would have been wiped out well before the CIA operation. If there was no CIA operation you'd still be having a problem with polio due to that long standing distrust.

When the biggest manhunt for the most wanted man leads to a safe house right next to your "West Point" after more than 10 years of evasion, you can hardly blame the most ruthless/efficient spooks out there. They will use any means available to get to him. How is CIA to be blamed for this?

Besides, it doesn't even make sense that people refuse to get their kids vaccinated because there was one spook in one small locality using vaccination program as a means to track OBL. Are there still bad men hiding in every household that refuses vaccination? Or those people still think all the vaccinations in Pakistan are funded by CIA?

In the end, whose loss is it anyway?
