Saudi Arabia bans prominent Palestinian authors from Riyadh book fair
Saudi Arabia reportedly banned hundreds of books and confiscated them from a Riyadh book fair including books by the late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish and other prominent Palestinians.

Organizers of the Riyadh International Book Fair announced before the event began that books deemed "against Islam or "undermining security" in the country would be removed from the event, AFP reported.

The local newspaper Okaz reported Sunday that organizers of fair which began on March 4, had confiscated "more than 10,000 copies of 420 books" from the event, according to the report.

Another Saudi media outlet Sabq reported that the country's religious police protested passages of Darwish's work saying they contained "blasphemous passages" and that they pressured organizers to remove all of the poet's books from the fair, AFP said.

In addition the works of Palestinian poet Muin Bseiso and of the Arab Israeli MK in exile Azmi Bishara were also reportedly banned.

A Saudi activist Aziza Yousef reportedly said the state action offered "free advertising to those whose books were banned" as many "rushed to download these works from the Internet."

Shame on you doing this to the poor wittle pallys. They finally manage to produce something that isn't terrorism, and you ban it

they need to ban everything that will give citizens any knowledge, in order to keep them under control  but that is bad, because people will question more... I actually support all those banning in Saudi "Arabia" maybe one day the pressure will cause the people to explode and get rid of those puppet kings...

Mahmoud Dariwsh is one the best poets in the world, of course they will ban his poetry and books, because it speaks the truth..

Anti-Muslim, Anti-Arab, communistic propaganda etc. should be dealt with as always.

This happened at one book festival in Riyadh. Does not concern the whole country.
Besides as usual it is exaggerated news. Nobody cares.

They are banning it on Israeli orders.

Like tiny Israel has any say in what KSA do.

Bans on anti-Muslim and communistic propaganda was enforced long before Israel even came to an existence which 99,9% of the country supports.

They do seem to want to keep the population ignorant.

Hasani likes to defend every such action from his country, but we can all see the increase in banning things by Saudi is a sign of fear by the regime.

Why do you keep making new accounts OP? Account bans are only temporary. Some of PDF's worst trolls are still using their original accounts.

I'm targeting by an American-born Arab who claims to be a 'palestinian'. He reports all my accounts and most are banned permanently.

It doesn't bother me hugely.

Pity Hasani has decided to act like a pathetic child, but he is still quite young and prone to adolescent outbursts.

of course since Mahmoud Dariwsh is anti-Israel and his poems are about Palestine and the suffering

Mahmoud Darwish
a Palestinian poet and author who won numerous awards for his literary output and was regarded as the Palestinian national poet.[1] In his work, Palestine became a metaphor for the loss of Eden, birth and resurrection, and the anguish of dispossession and exile.[2][3] He has been described as incarnating and reflecting "the tradition of the political poet in Islam, the man of action whose action is poetry".[4]

Do you honestly think a poet who's barely known outside of the region is such a danger to Israel, that we've asked the Saudis to ban him in Saudi Arabia?

The minds of the A-rabs is amazing  you all live in a conspiracy bubble.

Communist trash.

Well-known anti-Muslim.

Nobody cares. Go read it yourself. 99,9% of all Saudi Arabians are not interested in communist propaganda and anti-Muslim propaganda.

They are preparing the grounds for a recognition of Israel. But first all important Palestinian figures must be ignored and suppressed.

Farsi what happens in the Arab world is none of your business. Go worry about your "brothers" in Afghanistan or Tajikistan. That's your part of the world.

He is not any figure and is long dead.

What do you not understand? Communist and anti-Muslim sentiments are not popular and should not be freely spread. Very simple. In any case whoever wants to read his work will do so but the state should not make room for such people/sentiments to be state-sponsored since that book fair in Riyadh was sponsored by the government.
