Saudi Arabia Persuades Pakistan to Abandon Iran-Pakistan Pipeline

What gives you that entitlement?

Ask for Saudi investment to develop shale gas, not charity.

Please have some self respect.

Haq's Musings: Pakistan's Energy Security Via Shale Gas Revolution

Unfortunately there is no scientific and engineering evidence that Pakistan has a large Shale gas reserves unlike United States. Infact during Musharraf era an Italian petrochemical exploration company was contracted and payed a hefty fee to search for shale gas and oil in Pakistan's marine economic zone. After years they finished the survey and even drilling several expensive undersea exploratory wells and nothing came up.

Pakistan has at least 51 trillion cubic feet of recoverable shale gas in Sindh alone, according to US Energy Information Administration data. What is needed is the necessary investment dollars and specialized fracking technology to extract it..something US companies like Devon Energy have successfully done to dramatically increase gas supply in America.

The country's in debt, where do we get the dollars?

Saudis and Americans are pressing Pakistan to abandon Iran-Pakistan pipeline. Pakistan should ask for Saudi investment and US tech know-how to develop shale gas on an accelerated schedule in exchange for abandoning Iran-Pak gas pipeline. Such a decision will have the following benefits:

1. Give Pakistan access to cheap and abundant energy source at a fraction of the price Iran is asking for.

2. Avoid the crippling impact of US sanctions which have already forced the Chinese to pull out of Iran-Pakistan pipeline.

.
Anything that comes with US comes with US vision for our neighbourhood and that is defang Pakistan Army of its nukes and make Pakistan subservient to India and assist them in contain China. Two things Pakistan can never accept So it is not as simple as that.

This is why we wont accept Saudi bribery and interference in Pakistan

China has 1275 trillion cubic feet of shale gas and I am sure they are not ignoring such important source of energy therefore it is possible to assume that Chinese have the tech in their possesion. On the flip side, 51 trillion cubic feet is pale as compared to China!

How about going with both Saudi arabia and Iran for pakistan? This will be the best option.

There is no turning back from IP pipeline because most of it is completed. But why reject the Saudi offer? or is the Saudi offer a 'bribe' to not trade with "kafir" Iran?

Yep you are right mate:

1.The IP pipeline has reportedly reached Iran's border,

2 Pakistan has completed the survey for construction of pipeline on its side.

3. Iran has agreed to provide US$250 million to help Pakistan build its end of a gas pipeline

4. Under a sovereign-guarantee agreement related to the Iran pipeline project, Pakistan is bound to start gas flows in 2014 or face a penalty the equivalent of $8 million per day.

5. Gazprom agreed to fund it provided it did not go to open bid. Which Pakistanis are reluctant but if push comes to shove they will go for

6. Last year, Pakistan awarded a $55 million consultancy services contract for IP pipeline to German firm ILF Engineering Services, which is working in collaboration with the National Engineering Services of Pakistan.

.
.............

Let's see:

1.The IP pipeline has reportedly reached Iran's border,

Any confirmation of said reports? Photographs may be?

2 Pakistan has completed the survey for construction of pipeline on its side.

Surveys mean what? How long ago were surveys for Kalabagh and many other projects completed?

3. Iran has agreed to provide US$250 million to help Pakistan build its end of a gas pipeline

Has it actually paid any money? Has Pakistan accepted any?

4. Under a sovereign-guarantee agreement related to the Iran pipeline project, Pakistan is bound to start gas flows in 2014 or face a penalty the equivalent of $8 million per day.

Pakistani sovereign guarantees? Just like those for the IPPs? Not very robust, those.

5. Gazprom agreed to fund it provided it did not go to open bid. Which Pakistanis are reluctant but if push comes to shove they will go for

You mean "push comes to shove" has not come yet? Isn't it more like slapped around already?

6. Last year, Pakistan awarded a $55 million consultancy services contract for IP pipeline to German firm ILF Engineering Services, which is working in collaboration with the National Engineering Services of Pakistan.

I am sure that contract served up nice commissions all around and will not amount to much.

.

$8,000,000 per day, is that US dollars that would be close to 3 billion a year could you provide some more detail on this please.

saudi arabia had helped , pakistan in the past, but we are living in the present, & looking at our uncertain future, we need to , progress, our relations in every availible fields.
saudi arabia, is still a good friend, & we hope it will remain a good friend, but it, abality to back pakistan , in any conflict with any westrn power is zero, we all should agree on that?

.
1) Gas from Iran is strategically important for Pakistan.

2) Price of gas will be cheaper than any other source, considering transport cost.

3) If Saudis are considering Pakistan best interest then they should let Pakistan pursue independently and not persuade Pakistan to do things in the context of Saudi-Iran conflict.

Saudis do not consider Pakistan's best interest we need to that. We are seen as a pawn that a few crumbs are dispensed to when they need something from us

My Dear Pakistani Friends I Would Like You To Watch This Episode Of Khari Baat

Do You Really Think It Is Worth It To Buy Gas From Iran $11 Through A Pipeline Which Will Take Years To Complete and Also Risk International Sanctions Or Buy It From Local Companies at $4 Within One Year.I Am Not Saying That We Should Concede To USA But I Am Saying That We Should Make Decisions In The Best Interest Of Our Country.
We Should Actually Make A Barter Agreement With Iran On A Need Basis.Because Of Sanctions ran Has Got All Of It's Accounts Frozen. There Is The Spectre Of Food Shortage

We Should Help Them With Wheat Rice and Other Food Items and In Return Get Furnace Oil,Electricity and Coal.We Help Them With Their Problems and They Should Help With Ours. This Would Not Come Under Sanctions and It Would Be Win Win For All.
