Sir, yes Saudis can't vote as they only have observer status for now, but GCC has one vote as a block, just like EU, and who controls the GCC vote? I doubt it is Kuwait or Bahrain.

The real question you should be asking is this - instead of backing out, why didn’t China try to convince just one other country to support Pakistan?? You only need 3 members to defeat the motion. I am sure China has enough financial clout to pull it off.

I have read your arguments on this subject sir, the news reports clearly states that Turkey, China and KSA were told by the US that Pakistan will be given 3 months to fulfill certain criteria on terror financing and if it did will not be put on the list. This plus a promise on permanent membership made KSA change its stance, China knowing 2 votes won't matter did the same while Turkey did not budge. So we have till June.

Sir it is simple as that no one backed of from Pakistan and the new list of policy is not only for Pakistan but for every country. All countries have to follow those new actions.

I was thinking about the same thing. But then I looked at the member list, all members barring China, India, Russia, GCC, South Africa and Malaysia are either EU members or Nato member states. Singapore of course is an exception but considering its close ties with US I doubt it would have changed its vote. So China perhaps could have used its good offices to convince Russia, South Africa or Malaysia to vote in our favor, but I doubt the later two would have liked to face US wrath for denying their wishes for Pakistan's sake. Russia was a viable option, but that is somewhere I think Indians played their part well. So in the end jeevay jeevay Türkiye.

Well as expected what went on at the FATF meeting has finally come out. The three votes of Turkey, China and GCC were negated. After the Saudi led contingent voted, the American delegation simply walked over and spoke to them, and in the next round they withdrew their objection. In return I believe they are being made a full member and there are some other perks.
I remember reading the deployment of 1,000 men in Saudi and how many cheered it, but what happened here. It seems the Saudis/GCC dropped Pakistan into it without much hesitation. The Chinese gave up as now it was 2/3 and the Turks voted with determination.

While I have my concerns about why we are not taking actions against certain groups to avoid such scenarios in the first place. But if we are indeed a nation and not a mob that has no self-respect and dignity, this vote should stick in our national psyche for a very long time. This is the day when our BROTHERS left us high and dry on the international stage.

I have a simple question. Please tell me how did Iran avoided the Grey list. Only way Saudis would have backed off from Pakistan if USA had offered Saudis Iran back on the grey list in return but Iran also avoided being on the list. So that means Saudis don't have a vote on the list.
