Saudi Arabia announces the discovery of a huge wealth of gold and copper

Why is KSA not exporting its natural gas? @The SC @hamza gareeb

Saudi Arabia announces new natural gas discoveries

The kingdom is already a major oil exporter, but it could also start exporting natural gas in the near future.

Saudi Arabia’s state oil company announced two new natural gas discoveries Wednesday.
Aramco discovered the gas in two locations: the Awtad gas fields located 142 kilometers southwest of Hofuf, and the AlDahna field, which is 230 kilometers southwest of Dhahran. Both areas are in eastern Saudi Arabia.
There were two discoveries in the Awtad gas fields totaling 26.9 million standard cubic feet daily plus 905 barrels of natural gas condensate, which is a similar material. The discovery in AlDahna totaled 25.6 million standard cubic feet daily plus 362 barrels of condensate, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

Why it matters: Saudi Arabia is known for its large oil reserves and exports. The Gulf kingdom also has some of the largest natural gas reserves in the world. Saudi Arabia does not export its gas, however. Some is used domestically, but in recent years, the Saudi government has been exploring ways to start exporting its gas globally, according to a February report from the DC-based Middle East Institute.

The US Energy Information Administration predicted in January that Saudi Arabia expects to start exporting gas internationally by 2030.

Know more: In addition to its natural gas endeavors, Saudi Arabia is seeking to become a renewable energy hub. Also Wednesday, the Saudi Public Investment Fund announced it will build a massive solar plant in the country.

So I made a quick Google search and it seems that KSA has been discovering a lot of new gas fields in recent years. Makes perfect sense given the geography and the already large proven gas reserves.

Saudi Arabia discovers five conventional and unconventional gas fields

Same news covered by Bloomberg, I cannot copy the article.

Five new natural gas fields across the kingdom that can produce over 100 million cubic feet per day in total.

Saudi Aramco discovers two new oil and gas fields: energy minister

"The energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud said the new Abraq al-Toloul oil field, which lies to the south east of the northern city of Arar, flows with a daily rate of 3,189 barrels per day (bpd) of Arab light crude oil, along with 3.5 million cubic feet of natural gas.

Hadabat al Hajara gas field in al-Jof region has a daily production rate of 16 million cubic feets of natural gas, along with 1944 bpd of oil condensate, according to the minister.

Aramco will carry on with its efforts to estimate the total amount of oil and gas in the two fields and is drilling more wells to determine their areas and capacities, he added."

Saudi Arabia is doing well. Have to keep truing to move up the value chain , attract more FDI and industrialised the country more.

Since it is well-known that KSA is one of the most rich/blessed countries overall in terms of natural wealth, the same is the case for mineral wealth as can be seen.

KSA already holds between 5-10% of the global uranium reserves, at least as far current discoveries go.

I was reading up on cobalt-60 recently and I wondered if KSA had any cobalt reserves and sure of course they did.

Te cobalt bomb is a type of salted bomb, and it is a form of nuclear weapons presented by the physicist Leo Szilard, who saw that it is capable of destroying all forms of life on earth and bringing the end of the world.

The bomb shell is made of the usual cobalt metal rather than a second fissile material such as uranium. This metal turns into its cobalt-60 counterpart by emitting neutron radiation.

This bomb has a super destructive power that may lead to the annihilation of the entire human race as well as all living beings in and around the area of the explosion for a period of up to ten years.

It consists of three parts: a fission bomb that acts as a trigger for the hydrogen bomb. A hydrogen bomb containing deuterium with lithium and a large amount of cobalt is present as a casing for the two groups. The theory of this dangerous bomb is that the neutrons resulting from the explosion of the hydrogen bomb affect the atoms of cobalt-59 and turn it into radioactive cobalt-60, which is a highly radioactive element. This element was chosen because its half-life is 5.27 years, meaning that its radioactive atoms that explode in the atmosphere and Its radiation lasts nearly ten years.

Fun/scary fact, If a quantity of deuterium is used in a cobalt bomb and its weight is 10,000 tons, and with 10,000 tons of cobalt, this bomb can exterminate the entire population of the earth in just one year.

That's exactly what MBS is doing. He is fielding new concept cities in a bid to diversify the Saudi economy and provide valid competitors to Dubai in the region.

Saudi Arabia is uniquely blessed in its great wealth of natural resources. I'm sure they will be able to diversify and build global cities as long as their social rules become more flexible.

KSA's non-oil economy is almost as large as UAE's entire economy nowadays and UAE is a top 30 economy in the world. Comparing KSA and UAE is unfair for the UAE even though the latter has done amazing considering its size and population (one of the best performing nations considering those limitations), for starters the local/native/citizens in UAE number 1.5-2 million (or even less) while KSA has a native population of almost 30 million and a growing population.

KSA has the potential to become one of the leading tourist hubs in the world, it is already the most visited nation in West Asia after Turkey and that too with a virgin tourism industry that is first getting started, not to mention the ever-growing religious tourism (Hajj, Umrah etc.) that KSA has not taken fully advantage of at all.

Rest I agree with but we will have to see how KSA evolves with MbS around so far they are improving on almost every front but in that neighborhood nothing is ever certain.

This thread might interest people:

As for tourism potential, as I alluded to, KSA is a hidden gem for much of the traveling world that is now opening up. Some of the oldest artifacts, cities, civilizations, cultures, ruins etc. are available in KSA hidden away/unknown for much of the world outside of history buffs. Authentic hospitality, untouched nature, huge wide landmasses, wild nature, ancient history almost everywhere etc. With all due respect give me that over the likes of Dubai every day of the week, although Dubai has a lot to offer on its own as well if people like city holidays with futuristic/modern architecture, melting pots, great cuisine, weather, city/beach holidays etc.

Post that I copied from another thread. If you showed those photos to the average uniformed Westerner, he would have no idea that all that was KSA and that is just some random photos from a few regions.

Who does the mining of these copper or gold reserves? Aramco?

Some of those firms below I assume.

Top 10 Metals & Mining manufacturing companies in Saudi Arabia by number of employees for February 2023
  • Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma'aden) ...
  • Saudi Geological Survey. ...
  • Rajhi Steel. ...
  • Aluminum International. ...
  • BEMCO Steel Industries. ...
  • Arabian Geophysical and Surveying. ...
  • Mitwalli Steel Products. ...
  • AL JAZIRAH.
  • Ministry of Energy, Industry and Minerals
  • Hadaaed Special Steel Factory

Anyway the biggest is Ma'aden and they are running most of the existing mines in KSA but although KSA is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of mineral wealth, for some reason the mining sector in KSA until fairly recently, was quite limited and not taken advantage of. This has now changed.

Similar to how I to this day don't understand how come KSA is not even exporting natural gas sitting on the 4th largest proven gas reserves in the world.

@hamza gareeb @The SC

See post 31 and last part of post 37. Why is KSA not exporting its gas abroad and only using it for local consumption when KSA has the 4th largest proven gas reserves in the world and new gas field discoveries are made on a frequent basis as described in post 31?

Is this a political decision or what is going on? I can't imagine that economy is at play here. I find it very strange.

I know that KSA is going all in on hydrogen (green and blue) but it is a bit strange nevertheless.

After the Russian sanctions, Europe started importing Arab gas from countries like Qatar (next door) and Algeria.
