Saudi Arab & Afghanistan do not have Railway Why Pakistan have it. Bilour

A thread on the same topic

Many months back i heard one senior government official of Punjab (probably from the roads and transport authority) saying on TV that Lahore metro project was started in 90s and initial bids were received and successful bid was selected and each time the project got stuck due to financial or political reason new bids were invited and this happened 3 or 4 times.

He also added that Investment on roads and transport is a "DEAD INVESTMENT".

Countries consider investment on roads and transport as one of the major factors for drawing the attention of investors and is a plus factor for investment and later developments in many fields, but if the government says that investment on roads and transport is a "DEAD INVESTMENT" what would you expect them to do?

Maybe it is indeed a "DEAD INVESTMENT" as the heads of provincial and federal governments and the government officials cannot earn much out of it for their deep pockets and purses and wallets, bank accounts etc....

Mr Bilour is not really to blame , he just became the hear 2-3 months ago

I think the problem with Pakistan Railways has been a long term neglect

One of the biggest railway projects in the world is in Saudi Arabia.... Someone needs to give this guy a reality check.

For that our ministers and politicians have to read and write, but they (our ministers, politicians), a big majority of them if not 90% have not even seen a university in their life except for when they are requested to attend a graduation ceremony as VIPs.

agreed there should not be railway in Pakistan so that the transport business of this Jerk (bilour) could thrive...

The present day Saudi Arabia did have a railway built during the Ottoman rule (way before Pakistan even existed) connecting the Hijaz and the holy sites, however, unfortunately the Arabs destroyed it during their rebellion against the Turks during WW1.

Saudis do have railways both for passenger and freight.

Just beginning of this year, an Indian company RITES won the contract for operating a freight corridor in Jubail

Saudi railway hires Rites to operate new line - Corporate News - livemint.com
Riyadh: Saudi Arabian Railway has hired Rites Ltd, the state-owned logistics and infrastructure unit of Indian Railways, to operate a line that will transport minerals to an industrial complex in Jubail on the Persian Gulf.

The contact valued at $74.1 million (around Rs336 crore) will last until the end of 2013, the ‘Saudi Press Agency’ said on Saturday, citing Romaih bin Muhammad al-Romaih, deputy chief executive officer of the Saudi rail company.

The 1,486km line will open at the end of this year.

and here we have Pakistanis dreaming about Bullet Trains, Rapid Mass Transit System and Lahore Metro. I keep saying ke bhai logo pehle existing set up to ko thora profit main lao... phir aage ka socho :(

We literally need to overhaul everything from the Railway... Reduce employment, upgrade trains, signals, tracks anything you name it :( pehle is barhte howay Cancer ko to door kar lain... phir aage ka sochain

$1.5B for complete upgrades, development of state of the art all small/large Railway Stations. For signals, tracks and anything else related to it, this is possible in $2B or even less this will attract alot of customers rather then going by Air.

The standards of all Train needs to be elevated with quality workman ship even for that if Pakistan needs to send it engineers and manufacturers to Europe/S.Korea/Japan as unquestionably they are the leaders in this field.

Engines needs to be procured either from Germans or US or Canada.

Whether it is PIA, Railways on one position there are 4 people working or mentioned this is massive corruption it has to end and this Railways Kuli system needs to end & go.

I believe under $2B Pakistan can do so much more to bring Railway standards close to many smaller european nations railways standards & system we need it all systematic clean timely and security and checks in place, its not so hard Pakistan can do it all with in a strict project time of 3 Years.
