Shahbaz for timely completion of uplift projects
* Punjab CM says he would review pace of work every three weeks
* Officials of top three performing districts to be honoured
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday stressed the timely completion of development projects, saying that all resources should be utilised to achieve the targets.
Addressing a meeting held to review the pace of implementation of the annual development programme, special packages for big cities and mega development projects in south Punjab at the CM Secretariat, he directed the divisional commissioners, district coordination officers and the departments concerned to spare no effort for this purpose.
The chief minister (CM) said that he would review the pace of progress on development projects every three weeks and the chief secretary every 10 days. He said the administration and the relevant departments of the top three districts in terms of performance - to be evaluated on the basis of transparency, quality and timely completion of projects - would be honoured at a special ceremony, and he directed the chief secretary to evolve a course of action in this regard.
Shahbaz said the Punjab government was utilising all available resources to ensure rapid development of the province and provide basic amenities to the masses. He said that transparent and timely completion of all development projects was also being ensured.
Special attention was being paid to the development of backward areas and the development work carried out during the last two and a half years in south Punjab was unprecedented, he added.
Danish Schools have been opened for students in Bahawalpur division in the first phase while more schools are being set up in other less-developed areas, including DG Khan, Rajanpur, Attock and Mianwali, in the second phase of the project, he said, adding that the districts with a dire need of educational institutes have been given priority in the selection process.
The CM expressed his satisfaction over the pace of work and the ratio of funds’ utilisation in development projects. Pointing out that some two and a half months were left of the current financial year, he directed for further acceleration in the pace of work on development projects to ensure their on time completion.
Punjab Chief Secretary Nasir Mehmood Khosa informed the meeting about the progress of development projects in the province. Planning and Development Department Chairman Javed Aslam, while giving details of the implementation on development programmes, said that the pace of work and the level of utilisation of funds in the province was satisfactory.
He said that 110 projects out of 146 projects in south Punjab had been awarded while the remaining projects would be awarded soon in a transparent manner. He also gave details about the release of funds and pace of work of various mega development projects.
Senator Ishaq Dar, Senior Adviser to the CM Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, provincial ministers Nadeem Kamran Malik and Iqbal Channar, MPAs Tehmina Daultana, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, finance secretary and secretaries of departments concerned also attended the meeting. app
