Samsung opens two appliance plants in Bangladesh

Hey at least it didn't blow up and scar you for life...or, ask those of us who used iPhones...particularly 4 and 5...what shitty battery life is all about.

If the phones hadn't cost a small fortune, I would've smashed them into a million pieces.

I have been using apple products for 15 years from the first generation apple phones to MacBooks.

Regarding the iPhone if you fill your phone with apps and then leave all your apps to run in background unchecked your battery life will diminish quickly. It's no different with any other phone and neither is it rocket science.

In terms of Walton I have a few of their products... my experience is that they are robust.

Yet no one buys Walton products except the poorest of the poor

Walton is just a marketing company rebranding Chinese goods and selling it in DB. You will have hard time finding a Walton factory which they should have 100s looking at their product lines :)

You gonna deflate their fantasies so harshly?

Here come the youtube videos that say otherwise (even though there is literally no decent revenue return info on the company for the last few years)

Google could have made your time easier. Walton's manufacturing and R&D facility, Walton Hi-Tech Industries and Walton Micro-tech Corporation, is based at Chandra, Gazipur, producing and designing TVs, refrigerators, ACs, motorbikes and others. Walton is the only electronics home-appliance company based in the subcontinent with extensive designing and manufacturing capability. @Bilal9 bhai should know more.

I am getting tired of proving to these people that neighboring countries to India can produce good quality products too. I don't think however we will be selling a lot of these freezers and TV's in India though, in spite of our products made with much higher quality components than their Godrej garbage.......thanks to their license raj regime and inefficient businesses lobbying their corrupt govt. to keep their markets all to their exclusive crap products.

When you can't compete, protectionism is the tool you use!

Hope you enjoyed the imported chinese brochures @xyxmt

Check out walton's fantastic website while you are at it, complete with all clearly shown revenue data (like any company worth any beans would have):

http://www.waltonbd.com/

These lot do provide a good laugh when they say license raj blah blah. They dont even bother to check where Bangladesh lies in the global innovation index, esp such parameters as ISO certification %:

ISO 9001 quality certificates/bn PPP$ GDP:
BD: 0.8
PAK: 2.7
IND: 4.5

https://www.globalinnovationindex.org/gii-2017-report

Just remember Walton was projected on this very forum to be exporting billions upon billions of exports by now :cheesy:

They were supposed to undercut their own supplier (China)...lol!

By saying this, do you mean the daily laborers, Coolies and Rickshawalas buy Walton products, and not people like me who are a little above them? You should know better of the real economic purchasing power of that class. Do they have that kind of capacity to buy brand new electronic products? This is the first time I hear someone twisting the reality. You are trying to disgrace our Walton by making false claims.

You are wrong. Walton is not what you mean. But, it has to import parts from other sources only because the country is not capable to produce them. It will be same for Samsung. Its BD agent will import all the components from Samsung and assemble the final products.

This is from Wiki

Walton distributes 4,500 types and models of electric, electronic, and automotive goods that it imports, assembles, or manufactures.[1] As of 2017, handsets it assembles in China had captured 5% of the mobile phone market in Bangladesh.[5] In 2015, it manufactured 80% of the refrigerators, 30% of the televisions, and 6% of the motorcycles sold in Bangladesh.[6][7] It also has the capacity to manufacture 300,000 air conditioners a year.[7]

I don't think Wiki has the most current and accurate stats or info. By the way, do Pakistani refrigerator and Aircon brands make their own compressors? Going by the demand of these products in Pakistan, I'd think so - but not sure.

Bangladesh is now one of some fifteen countries where compressors are manufactured and you guessed it, that brand is Walton.

And you comprehended all the 4,500 products are imported/assembled and not manufactured? I agree, certain products are imported/assembled like Smartphones (the app-development, however, is done locally) while others like TVs, refrigerators, ACs, motorbikes and some other home and electrical appliances are all manufactured locally. You can watch the videos posted here, they have all the details.

just because you know a word doesn't mean it fits in every situation

Other than that I agree with everything you believe, Walton makes everything just as you said and I comprehended :)

You've not been in bd. So stop taking shit out of your a ss with your mouth.

But yes I did notice some Walton products that are actually cheap Chinese alternative in China licensed built by companies with headquarters as a tiny shop so in that part I can agree with you.

and if I do, does it get very tempting for you?

Bangladesh has become the best place to invest in south Asia. Sheikh Haseena is really doing great with the economy and also security. She has literally raised the standards of the society and got rid of the unwanted ideologies and useless thought which could have doomed Bangladesh.

Is it just me or is it that some of you guys nearly always have to add some weird religious/political angle into......everything?

I see little reason to rejoice other than the fact that Samsung products will be more affordable by more Bangladeshis. Bangladeshi companies like Transcom among others have been doing these for some time.

Bangladesh's investment (both local and foreign) climate is still weak, and is insufficient to reach Vision 2030. The level of foreign investment pales in comparison to neighboring countries. This is currently not due to politics, but due to high corporate tax rates. Bangladesh has some of the highest in the region. It's so high that some companies (depending on their sector) see nearly half of their profits go to taxes. Along with other nuances, if taxes are so high, why should anyone invest in your country? Better to invest someplace else (speaking purely from the perspective of an investor).
