LG G5 with modular design and dual camera

Meet the LG G5 - the first mainstream modular phone! There have been attempts in the past, the most recent being Google's Project Ara, but none has found mainstream success.

Sleek body, functional addons
The G5 has a "fluid metal" body and beveled glass on the front; not even antenna slits spoil its perfect lines. There is a single seam, which separates the bottom part.

That's the modular component - it can be removed to access the battery and card slots, and one of several add-ons can be inserted (this requires a reboot though).

The first add-on is a camera grip, the LG Cam Plus. It adds 1,100mAh battery and hardware controls - a hardware shutter key, a video button, zoom dial. Then there's a Bang & Olufsen DAC for even better audio quality. LG will open the standard for third-party manufacturers to create even more add-ons.

One of a kind screen, unique dual camera
Back to the LG G5, it has a 5.3" LCD with an always-on mode. It features a dedicated memory and a power-sipping secondary chip so that the main chipset can go to sleep while the screen remains on 24/7. The bespoke chip sips just 0.8% of battery per hour.

The dual selfie camera idea from the V10 has migrated to the G5 too, but as a main camera. One camera has 75° Field of View (FoV) and 16MP sensor, the second camera is much wider, 135° and 8MP sensor. Images from both cameras can be merged with various effects and a real-time preview.

Finally, the "regular" specs. The LG G5 is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset wtih 4GB of RAM. It has 32GB storage on board and a microSD slot. It's 7.5mm-8mm thick and packs a small-ish 2,800mAh battery. Below the dual-camera is the fingerprint sensor.

The LG G5 will launch in early April in the initial group of countries.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

The long wait is finally over, which also means the end of the endless sea of rumors. We finally have the full story. The samsung galaxy s7 is every bit as impressive as expected. It comes with a 5.1-inch, 2560 X 1440 pixel Super AMOLED display, with a keenly sharp 577 ppi. Its body measures exactly 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9mm and weighs in at 152g. The body itself is even curvier than before with a Note5-like slope on the back and a 2.5D effect on all four sides on the front.

The Galaxy S7 edge as expected, adds another dimension to the mix with its impressive 5.5-inch display, curved on both sides and now a bit bigger than its predecessor. The edged variant is surprising even thinner with a body measuring 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7mm and just a tad heavier - 157g.

As for the guts of the handsets, as expected, both will come powered by either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC or Samsung's own powerhouse - the Exynos 8890. Memory is still set at 4GB, which is perfectly adequate and fast with LPDDR4 technology. Storage options include 32GB of 64GB, plus an extra microSD card for up to 200GB extra.

The camera setup consists of 12MP sensor, but don't let that number fool you. The hardware is totally innovative thanks to a f/1.7 aperture and a new Dual Pixel technology, which allows for some clever ambiguity of its large sensor pixels and makes for amazing low-light performance and blazing fast autofocus speed. Of course, smart OIS is also on board. Last, but not least, the new Motion Panorama feature makes for amazing wide-angle shots.

Both the S7 and S7 edge have fairly sizable batteries, but the latter definitely shines in this department, with 3,000 mAh and 3,600 mAh, respectively. The pack can also be recharged blazing fast with wired and Wireless Fast Charging (WPC and PMA standards). Other hardware features include Dual-band Wi-Fi ac, MIMO, Bluetooth v.4.2, ANT+ and support for both NFC and MST and payment systems that rely on them. Interestingly enough, Samsung has stuck with USB 2.0 and the familiar connector.

A truly amazing new feature of both models is the IP68 rating, which means that the S7 duo is properly waterproof.

On the software side of things, TouchWiz is now running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with all the features that come with it. Edge fans now have a lot more to get excited about thanks to an improved Edge Apps platform - the physical area is a lot wider offering more info at a glance. Gamers can also rejoice thanks to a newly adopted support for Vulkan, which promises to usher in the next era of mobile graphics.

Its all personal choice but for me galaxy s6/s7 edge/ edge plus are most beautiful design and compact as well

..nice that s7/s7 edge has micro sd card as well as waterproof feature which is must for me as too much rain in Uk :D

mate 8 is brilliant phone but its too big for one hand operation and pocket friendly

Nexus 6p/note 5/s6 edge plus and Microsoft lumia 950 x are my fav phone of 2015 :D

Lg g5 is tempting but will see how its dual camera perform but i like the idea of removable battery

So What? Be happy with it. The differences are not exponential.
also its good idea to buy phone after few months of its release when price get drop significantly

The only good thing about htc is their boom sound speaker and software..camera is poor as compare to others top end phones

I am using xperia z2 as my second phone..i will say its very good option ..waterproof, decent camera not as good as s6/note 5, stereo speakers eventhough they are not loud , excellent battery life and most of all its available very cheap as i got z2 in just £120 pounds ..depend actually on what you prefer and your prince range

nexus 6p is bigger
