Inauguration Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd’s Strategic Electronics Factory at Kasaragod (Kerala)


Defence Minister, A.K. Antony inaugurated Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd’s Strategic Electronics Factory at Kasaragod (Kerala) on November 17. Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala inaugurated the production facilities at the same function.

Speaking on the occasion, Antony said the Unit had already begun production and this was only a formal inaugural function. HAL is the Defence Ministry’s flag-ship PSU which meets the needs of the Indian Air Force, be it aircraft manufacturing, modifications or electronics equipment making. In the second phase – expected to begin soon- Kasaragod facility will cater to the upgrade needs of fighter planes such as Sukhois and Jaguars, he added.

R. K. Mathur, Secretary (Defence Production) said based on its capacity and experience in the avionics, HAL was chosen by the government to set up the Factory in Kasaragod.

R. K. Tyagi, Chairman, HAL said the new facility will eventually lead to self-sustained independent Division on getting the production and maintenance work for the avionics of medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA), Mirage-2000 upgrade programmes and software defined radios. “The new factory will bring prosperity to the region and will help company take a big leap in aerospace equipment manufacturing. God’s own country is now HAL’s another home”, he added.

Joseph, Minister of Planning and Culture, Kerala, former industries minister (Kerala), Elamaram Kareem, MPs, MLAs, top government and HAL officials were present at the glittering ceremony held at the HAL Factory premises in Kasaragod.

As of today Kerala is not fully a Kashmir ... but going by the current trends it will soon be one... & u will see these projects getting effected at that time ...

Defense installations are done by taking into interest about the long term benefit ... & so Kerala is not beneficial place in that regards ...

Even Antonio has himself said in a recent speech against his own party that setting up anything is very difficult & his own government is not supportive ... so it will be a Moronic part of him to set defense installations in Kerala which he himself have criticized ...

What Anthony stated has not a damn thing to do with Islam or Jehadis. Wake up fool. You are too narrowminded to think otherwise. Guys, getting defense projects into kerala is not a big issue at all.

There is hardly anything in Kerala than other states.

Only Brahmos factory and the recent component factory at Kasarkod, what else?

If you look at TN, there is ordance factory, tank making facilities, air force base etc.

IN Karnataka, the whole HAL /DRDO is out there. So whats the big deal?

recently Kangressi tried to appease Hindus by saying that only a Declared Hindu can vote in devasam board election ... then people understood that what Kangress was trying to make all the communist Hindu votes invalid since Communist has the larger number of Hindu MLA's then Kangress & most of the dont declare them as Hindus... so that the election may be won by Kangress...

unless & until Kerala in the name of religious Appeasement stops giving support to Jehadi elements like PFI, NDF , MADANI , & IUML ... No such sensitive installation should be made in Kerala...

True to some degree but given India;s security scenario, the South is the safest. Plus, the ppl in Kerala, travel extensively and have a worldly view. That itself will help contribute to defence design immensely. Also, this is a prime opportunity for the yongsters in the state to take an active role in building a vibrant defence industry. No other state besides Gujurat and Northeast can aid defence better but due to risks, Kerala and South India is best.

But, it is one of the only states that are far away from hostile borders and with a calm environment to work for defense projects. Also, southern states are technically very educated (engineering, scientific areas etc). That's the only reason why southern states get so much defense and startegic attention.

But the communist lazy mentality has to really go if industry has to prosper there.
