SAAB GETS LATEST GRIPEN E DEVELOPMENT CONTRACT

Saab already has the experience and technology to keep costs down. Where as Pakistan will have to invest in R&D for the same product.

Besides JF-17 is on the lower scale of 4th Gen Fighters.

when in comes to cost, nobody does it better than china and pak, they developed the fighter in 300-400 million so cost issues won't be a big problem.

Correction: JF17 was lower scale of 4th gen and now bar is raise.

ok. Most of the plane was build with already developed technology, while Saab made most of their plane with equipment developed for it.

By investing in the avionics. How much did the off-the-shelf cost?

Listen, i'm not disputing that Pakistan can't improve the JF-17 for cheaper. Saab Gripen has ~40% foreign components, components that hinder it from being sold successfully. While Pakistan can shop around for improvements from countries since it owns rights to the JF-17

JF-17 > Gripen. JF-17 has more advanced design with DSI. It's like comparing a 2007 Ford F150 to a 1995 F150. Their designs are a generation apart.

work is on mate ! it will have an american engine too...very soon..by grripen E lol
Yes, work has been on with "Ttejjass" for some time ... :-).
By the way, when are You guys going to learn how to spell "Gripen"?

Saab also did the same, it bought most of the equipment from the USA.

Pakistan/China are free to sell the JF-17 to whomever.

The foreign components are a major turn-down for potential buyers.

True that. Whenever weapons are exported to a country, that country becomes your client and has to vote for you at the UNGA :p:

And pray you sir, where have Gripen being sold? Not even Pakistan buys it 8-)

Gripen has been sold and/or leased to Thailand, South Africa, Czech Republic, Hungary.
Slovakia is next, followed by Brazil. Won the Switzerland tender but the referendum
turned down the idea of buying *any* fighter.

AFAIK, none of these countries has even considered the JF-17, DSI is maybe not so important.
Even Rafale has not been sold outside France, so the MMRCA will be the first, if the deal
is ever completed.

Which country wants to do business with a country where foreigners are killed for beeing foreigners?
(at least that is a common perception), so future JF-17 sales are really in doubt.

Pakistan/China are free to sell the JF-17 to whomever.

The argument that Gripen should not be bought, because of the US engine,
is really valid for India, considering it is using exactly the same engine in Tejas.

If You are a loyal ally to the West, then there is no problem.
If You are neutral, also no problem.
If you, like Pakistan, has complex relations with the U.S., then you
don't want to buy ANY airplane from the West, because of the risk of sanction.

SAAB might have problems getting permissions to sell to a country, (like the Norway deal
Where the U.S. delayed approval on some critical components, until after the deal was done)

Didn't help the U.S. in Brazil, where their spying on the president disqualified them from competition.

Slovakia is next, followed by Brazil.

Hungary, Thailand, South Africa, Czech Republic. All of these are small poor underdeveloped countries. Ditto with Slovakia. Brazil is a big country, but it's an underdeveloped country.

And your list of JF-17 sales is...

NATO countries are either EF / Rafale due to local development/manufacturing
or F-35 due to US pressure. Obviously not Russia.
Middle East countries are normally blocked from buying by export control.
Australia, Japan & S. Korea are loyal US allies, and fits into NATO behaviour.

Not a lot of developed countries left.

Don't think JF-17 will sell outside Pakistan.

JF-17 could be sold to Argentina :azn: which is at odds with Britain over the Falklands. Of course, WS-13A would have be ready first.

Or they could buy Gripen, manufactured in Brazil. Great Britain would of course try to block any sale.
So what makes Argentina a more developed country than, lets say the Czech Republic?
