South Korea is not the enemy of China, both countries had suffered from Japanese atrocities during World War II when the Japanese Imperial Army had invaded both countries by killing, raping and committing atrocities on millions of women and children. However the US and Japan want to rally South Korea against China. Regarding why China needs aircraft carrier, same question could be asked to India and Japan which already has three helicopter carriers which could be converted to aircraft carriers. A country like Japan having committed crimes against humanity, which refused to apologize and pay damages and which are spreading revisionism in books has not right to have aircraft carriers. China is a country whcih has the right to have aircraft carriers just as all the four permanent members of the UN council and just like the UK, France, Brazil, India, Japan, Thailand, Italy and Spain which all have aircraft or helicopter carriers. So China should remain military weak so that the US could bully and bash it, that is why a military and technological embargoes are imposed on it but this will not prevent China to make its own weapons and become an economic and military superpower.

When it comes to anti ship missiles, most people look at their capabilities from their speed. However, consider this.

Those Yakhonts and derivatives will have a blaring RCS as soon as it lifts off due to its large size. And oh, the friction from the air due to its high speed and engines will result in a high IR signature, which will be detected by the enemy. The Yakhonts are not known to have terrain hugging features, thus forcing them to fly at high altitude, which again, exposes them to enemy radar. So, contrary to the reports, the Yakhonts are in fact easy to track.

Yakhonts are also only guided by active or passive radar, which is prone to jamming. The supersonic speeds does not allow them to move freely, therefore limiting their anti defense maneuvers and removing their capability to do pop up approaches.

This combination of high observability, low resistance to jamming, and inability to make much evasive maneuvers, pretty much means that the Yakhonts or their derivatives will be of no major threat to the Varyag, or any other ship, at all.
