S.Korea, Japan to sign first military pact

The US is not leaving Japan and Korea, and the US will have access to a chain of bases stretching from Jeju Islands to Okinawa, Subic Bay in Philippines, Singapore, and all the way to Vietnam. China has nothing comparable.

What "ganging up"? China stands alone; it has no ally other than Pakistan, but there is too much gap between China to Sri Lanka to Pakistan to oppose the US containment.

Not to mention that the US can count on having allied forces of four other developed nations, Korea, Japan, Australia, and Singapore to the battle field, while China itself is a 3rd world country and has no developed ally with it.

They don't need an alliance to handle North Korea.

North Korea is a code word for China, just like how "North Koreans" in the movie Red Dawn are code word for Chinese.

You are living in the present, the rest of us are projecting a future, which is hard to imagine for some people. But anything can happen in future, nothing is written in stone, so our projections can be as worthless as yours, where you imagine a static world.

And the future projections state that China will stay a 3rd world country as the weight of political inefficiency and massive corruption at all levels of society, from the CCP leaders taking $10 billion from the state all the way down to school teachers asking for "red envelop", weigh down on Chinese growth.

There is no such thing as a developed country run by a totalitarian government. As long as the CCP is in power, China will stay a 3rd world country. It is as simple as that.

Korea used to be totalitarian too under Park Chung Hee, look at Korea today.

Korea used to be totalitarian too under Park Chung Hee, look at Korea today.

Korean dictators had a line they would not cross under any circumstance(Humanity in them would not allow them to go that low), and eventually they surrendered to the public revolt because they couldn't cross it and Korea became a free country, now the most democratic in Asia.

Chinese leaders have no line they cannot and will not cross, and they will take all measures to suppress any dissidence against them. While I am sure individual Chinese democracy activists are courageous and heroic, that still is not enough to overcome the tanks rolling over them. That's the difference between Korea and China.

Korea used to be totalitarian too under Park Chung Hee, look at Korea today.
Speaking of Park Chung Hee, he is revered by public today and his daughter is the leading presidential candidate just for being his daughter. Why? Because Park did what he did for the country, and took no personal gains from it(His daughter inherited $300K from his father when he was assassinated. That was all the money Park saved for himself, namely presidential salaries and some farmland he bought which appreciated in value).

. . .
What's the pact about? You watch my ***, while I watch your's?

I like seeing conscript rejects like you squirm. The more the enemies that hate your guts and proudly declare they hate you give you 'advice' on how to become 'better' the more you know that you're doing the right thing.

If Korea can transition from dictatorship to democracy, why can't China? May be the steps will not be the same. I foresee democratization within the communist party that will reduce corruption and nepotism, but still maintaining single party system, as the next step.

Dictatorship in Korea was dependent on individuals, whereas in China, the system depends on a team (communist party and its cream at the upper echelon, drawing talents from entire society) which is much more stable.

Korean dictators crossed line as well, as all totalitarian systems do:

There are many differences between Korea and China, size, history, ethnic makeup etc., but in the end all societies evolve based on their own unique situation. Korea or China are no exceptions.

The Chosun Ilbo (English Edition): Daily News from Korea - Seoul Postpones Signing Military Pact with Japan
Seoul Postpones Signing Military Pact with Japan

Korea has requested a last-minute postponement of the signing of an unprecedented agreement with Japan allowing the sharing of classified military data. The delay was caused by political sensitivities in Korea.

The pact to exchange military intelligence would be the first between Seoul and Tokyo since Japan's occupation of Korea. The two neighbors, long wary of each other, share increasing defense concerns about North Korea and China.

The signing by Japan's foreign minister and Korea's ambassador had been expected to take place in Tokyo Friday afternoon. But shortly before pens were to be put to paper, came word that Seoul had requested a delay so the agreement could be explained to worried governing party and angry opposition members of the National Assembly.

The politicians object to what they term "a lack of transparency" this week by the Korean government in approving the pact, as well as lingering but strong anti-Japanese sentiment among citizens.

Korean civic groups and opposition politicians have denounced the military agreement, with some alleging it gives Japan a de facto pardon for its wartime atrocities.

My personal opinion, the presence of the US indispensable in northeast Asia at least in the short and medium term. However, for the long term, Japan and South Korea should do from today:
- Get nuke toys.
- Solidarity with each other and with other Asian countries.

A vast country with a dictatorship and nationalism like China is much more dangerous to democracy, whether it is the world's third or the rich...

. .
Of course, the aim of the pact is China, it is obvious!!
In fact, they both are doggie of USA, this pact can't change anything!
"KOREAN" idiot:Yes, we are third world country, you are second world country, But so what, we are master of ourself, and we had been your master of you, but now, you still are the doggie of US, from you borning of korean, you are just the slave of other powerful countries. Dog is dog, they can't understand the master's mind. And china never though you are something, especially in the war, whatever how bad is our country, at least, we don't like you loser country, can't protect yourself!!
Viet: It make me fun, seems they are democratic country, Yes, USA, JAPAN, INIDA all want to "help" you, But for us, it is nothing, the important thing for us is that you are so close to us, they will supply you with weapon in the war with china, that's can't change anything, but the attack from china will be sharper, all viet will be destroied., of course you can damage china partly!

.
"KOREAN" idiot:Yes, we are third world country, you are second world country
Th "second world" disbanded with the fall of the Soviet Union and the communist block. It is now just the first world vs third world, the distinction being "developed" and "developing". Korea is officially a first world country, stopping being a 3rd world country like 10 years ago.

And china never though you are something
And the rest of the world doesn't think much of Chinese either.
