Ankara and Islamabad have agreed to seek replacement engines for 30 Turkish-made attack helicopters after the US blocked supplies. Some Turkish officials say Washington is retaliating for the purchase of Russian-made missiles.

In July, Turkey and Pakistan signed their biggest-ever arms deal, ending four years of negotiations. The Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is to produce 30 T129 ATAK multipurpose helicopters for the Pakistani military for $1.5 billion. The model is a derivative from the Italian Agusta A129 Mangusta, which integrates Turkish avionics and weapons with AgustaWestland’s airframe and has some upgrades.

The deal however hit a stumbling block after the Turkish company failed to obtain an export license from the US Department of Defense. The license is required for the US-made parts of the engines that are meant to power the aircraft. The LHTEC T800-4A turboshaft engines are produced by a joint venture of the US-based manufacturer Honeywell and Britain’s Rolls-Royce.

“This is not a technological or financial matter but is purely political at the moment,” a senior Turkish procurement official told Defense News in August, after the problem arose.

With the license problems seemingly nowhere near a resolution, Pakistan and Turkey agreed to seek a replacement variant for the engines, Turkey’s Hurriyet reported on Thursday.

Producers in France and Poland are being considered as potential suppliers, provided that new tests are made to confirm performance in high-altitude and bad weather conditions. The US-British engines were tested on the T129 to conform to Pakistani demands in 2016. TAI hopes it will be able to complete the contract in five years, the newspaper reported.

The US threw a monkey wrench into the lucrative arms deal to punish Ankara for purchasing Russian S-400 long-range air defense systems in defiance of Washington’s warnings, a senior Turkish defense official told Russia’s TASS news agency. The remarks were made during the IDEAS 2018 arms expo in Pakistan’s Karachi this week. The official said a Chinese product may be considered as a replacement too.

Ankara’s purchase of the Russian weapon system is one of many issues marring Turkey’s relations with the US. The two countries have clashed over the past several years regarding Washington’s support of Kurdish militias in Syria and Iraq and US failure to extradite a Turkish cleric accused by Ankara of orchestrating an armed coup, to name a few.

. . .
What do the Tweets say?

There is no delay in contrary the frames for the first two helicopters are already on the production-line. Also no official in the Turkish-Military industry would or even is allowed to talk to foreign media about these topics i.e. exports. If something like this were to happen Turkish media and Turkish military journalists would be the first to break it. The guy who wrote this has connections in the SSB and in the industry in general.

So again the russian fakemedia pulled shit out of its own ***. This thread can be closed.

Wrong. @cabatli_53 Boss will you alert the admins. Our butcher lover is at it again with his fake news from the quality fake news factory "RT".

So the deal is going through with a bit of delay.

Seriously, If your foreign office continues this, it might actually backfire and US might throw a monkey wrench in the deal. President Erdogan needs to reprimand his news representatives from spreading needless news updates.

Given Trump's short temper I doubt he would be willing to give as many concessions for anything as Obama did.

hey, can you translate this tweet into English? What is the use of posting the tweet if the vast majority of the audience cannot read it?

In general: No delay, contrary even the first two frames are already on the production-line and the deliveries will be done faster than thought. Reports by the Russian fakemedia are wrong and only serve to disrupt Turkish-American relationships and to diminish Turkey export capabilities in general. No Turkish official is allowed to talk to foreign media about Military-Industry topics especially sensitive ones like exports deals.

Nobody gave any news updates. The russian media published like it often does fake news without any official names or announcements about a deal that has nothing to do with them days after Turkey stayed silent on their conflict with Ukraine. No Turkish media official or official working in the industry said anything about delays they even didn't reply to this baseless report from russia because its wrong and made up. Especially no official is allowed to even speak about these things to foreign media or in public.

This guy knows a lot of people and asked around after the reports came out and TAI/SSB stayed silent on it as bs reports dont deserve an answer and he was told that like I said dozens of times it is fake news and that there is no delay, contrary the production and deliveries will be faster than thought.

Thanks for the translation and clarification. The most important thing is that the official channel between Pakistan and Turkey is strong and active so such rumours/fake news have little to no effect since people are not that much interested in such news.

This has less to do with you and more to do with US vs Turkey; more of an attempt to fan political tensions between the NATO allies.

There were some delays but deliveries are ready despite those delays. First 2 T-129 are ready for shipping and 3rd is about to roll out. USA was thinking of being naughty but Pakistan had already used to polish connection for supplementing after which USA thought there was no point in fucking ones own business. T-129 is coming and French engine are also a fit for T-129.

WTF you are babbling here about Russian fakemedia? RT just translated the article from your Turkish media http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/gundem/1-5-milyar-dolarlik-satis-icin-ataka-motor-seferberligi-41035869

Sober up and tell us a story about Turkish fakemedia instead.
Russians didn’t fall from a turnip truck to give their best technology to a NATO overzealed member! Beside that the US will never allow Turkey to go to Russia for her air defense...Just have a look at the Sultan being left holding the bag after he agreed to to have Kashuggly murdered in his country .
