Russians refuse to let PIA off the hook without payment

PIA used to be good.

Now it's turned into 'Pathetic International Airlines'. It should be privatized, smartly of course.

Government airlines of South Asia will never privatize. Because this will reflect the governing incompetence which everybody knows but cannot see in isolation.

Air India gobbled up INR 30,000 crores of our public money to stay afloat.

Personally, in the long term it would be best if PIA and AI stopped operating.

Better to Privatize Railways, PIAs as well as All the Thermal Plants and supply corporations to GCC investors.

I believe China can help you on this… It will be better if you will hand over your railway and airlines to CHINESE company and share the benefit… In this way Pakistan can enjoy high class facility with low effort…Plus point will be, in the scenario level of corruption will be almost zero.

128 passengers on a B-777 in summer season for London? That is an abysmally low pax load...

Anyways on to the topic at hand, the Russians wouldn't let this opportunity go. I also heard somewhere that the plane hasn't been fixed yet either...

Knowing PIA probably not. I remember getting on a flight Khi to Islo on a twin otter because the usual aircraft some Boeing has developed a fault with one of the engines on it's way to Karachi... :(

These politically safarish watoo's have ruined PIA.

It is unlikely.

The Chinese aviation market except for China Eastern and China Southern are not much different from our national carriers.

See the Chinese aviation industry is sort of insulated. There, there is no cut throat competition because the government sanctions selected routes for each airlines to fly, leaving each one free not to feed into the other's domain.

Technically, there is government intervention. While the services might be much better but just a couple of days ago there was a post on the service of airlines in China (other than HK and Macau) which wasn't good.

So basically, it is an Asian syndrome of having dysfunctional government owned carriers.

Private carriers are excellent though.

Your point is fine....But Pakistan Railway and Airlines will be in better shape under Chinese Pvt. Company...compare with as in today...Don you think...?

The Chinese commercial aviation is under tremendous pressure to change its work structure. Despite numerous airlines and massive fleet within the country, their operating structure is highly inefficient and right now the focus of Chinese government is to facilitate regulations that help optimize the airline operations.

A private carrier for any Chinese company in Pakistani market is very different.

Remember, that most of the laws that we and the Pakistanis have are from the socialist era and thus bureaucratic hurdles even in Pakistan are quite high apart from nepotism and corruption. PIA will never be handed to the private enterprise because of the same reasons why AI is not being privatized: Government's EGO.

They don't mind keeping inept, lazy jerks in employment and blowing public taxpayer's money onto their loss making airlines and manpower.

Chinese firms are used to working in environment where government is business-minded and efficiently removes hurdles in a snap of fingers like Chinese government.

No matter what friendly ties are, a private firm looks for profits which if according to what our host members say, would take a long time to achieve considering the amount of losses and debts PIA has piled up on its account books.

A good operating profit doesn't essentially mean a company becomes profitable immediately. To compensate for years of nepotism, a privatized PIA would need at least a decade of continuous profits to recover and stabilize.

Thanks to our retarded leaders the PIA is an utter mess. Its been suffering neglect
