If they would have got,help like Afghans things would have been lot different.
I doubt any country would have dared help the Chechen rebels like US and Pakistan helped the mujahedin in Afghanistan as both cases are different.
They got a lot of help - most commanders were from abroad and many weapons too. They even got bases in Georgia. And don't forget it was time of collapse in Russian army as in whole Russia as well.
Why Gerogia was into it?
Because of anti-Russian policy and some benefits for it. Georgia was not the sponsor of jihadists in Chechnya, Georgian politics used the situation to earn money. Sponsors were the same as of terrorists in Syria, Lybia etc.
