NEW DELHI, Oct. 7 - RIA Novosti, Evgeny Pakhomov.
Fifth-generation fighter, which will work together to create India and Russia, will not be a copy of an existing fighter T-50, and will self-development, said on Wednesday a senior source in the Russian delegation, which is based in New Delhi during a visit to India, Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov.

"Of course, this machine will not be a copy of the T-50, and how will this aircraft will be identified during work on the schematic design and further work on the plane," - said the source.

At the same time, he noted that achievements obtained during the creation of the T-50 will be used when creating a new machine.

Earlier, speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Indian Defence Minister Arakkaparambil Kurian Antony said the Indian side expects to be able to get into service its air force from 250 to 300 Indo-Russian fifth generation fighter aircraft.

Russia and India plan to create a fifth-generation fighter to the 2015-2016 year. It is assumed that they would create two versions of the fifth generation fighter aircraft - single and double. Costs to be split roughly equally between the two countries.

According to the newspaper "Times of India, India intends to invest more than $ 25 billion to equip its air force aircraft of the fifth generation.

In September, the head of the corporation Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Ashok Nayak told reporters that Russian-Indian contract for preliminary design fifth generation fighter aircraft (PAK FA) may be authorized by the Government of India before the end of this year.....:azn::azn::azn:

No country will sell more advanced weapon than their arsenal.Weapon sellers always keep the best for their own countries use, more over they will not get sanction from Gov to do it.Eg Mig 31

Russia is not selling India anything!!! If T-50 was better than FGFA than IAF would not ask for modifications and updates. The basic platform will be T-50 for both PAK FA and FGFA. If all Russian systems were better than India needn't to modify MKI.

If it not based on T 50 then what about airframe and engine . . I have seen some pic of t 50 but there exhaust not like rapter . . Just like mki . . Now if we start it from drawing table then can we induct in soon as we hoping . . Pls correct me

Of course they are selling their technology bro.Do you really think Russia willing to share their technology with India when their economy is sound???hell NO.They want a partner to share their developing costs so they are here.

Two seat fighter aircraft's are the Indian air force's strategy and they want more lighter aircraft than Russia's so India made some changes in their requirement that's the simple answer for it.:azn:
More advanced stuff is unbelievable.:hang2:

the wording seems to suggest that a second parallel program is being contempleted. improbable.

so probably its just a problem with translation from russian

May be like this..

This news is both good and bad. Good because FGFA will be more capable (for IAF's requirements), and bad because it might take more time. However, I hope the 50 T-50's will be delivered as scheduled.

One thing we can be sure of is that Russia will not let us down when we are in need.

Of course not.
According to some source's FGFA will be much lighter and smaller than PAK-FA and two seater too, that makes some difference right.:azn:

How can you say that? T-50 is still a prototype and FGFA, well, a concept in the making!

The issue here is not about the superiority or inferiority of Russian systems. The issue here is what is best suited for Indian and IAF needs. India customized Su-30 MKI to suit its own needs and nothing more.

There are Russian systems which we do not need or want, and then there are systems which we need but Russia cannot deliver. You also have to consider the building of strategic alliances or partners by subcontracting various defence deals to different vendors/countries.

With Su-30, there already was a ready platform for us to buy off the shelf (which we initially did) and then modified it according to our needs. However with FGFA, we will be starting, basically, at the drawing board with all the expertise that we and Russians (with their T-50) can bring to build a platform ideally suited for IAF needs.

does that mean FGFA will be inducted after 2018? whats a good time stimate for induction? how about first flight? 2015?

.
Well is right there with the best of them....

Its a JV. Russia will make the PAK FA for them in Russia and India will make FGFA for IAF in India.

If their economy is so 'sound' than why they need India??? They could simply sell it.

The two seat fighter will be heavier than than single seat, isn't it?

More advanced stuff is unbelievable.:hang2:

Its also unbelievable that IAF rejected Russian AWACS in favor of Phalcon. IAF wants always the best in the world.. from MRCA to C-17... Its really unbelievable that they made changes to original aircraft to make it inferior!!!
