The robotized vehicle will be able to provide reconnaissance, deliver strikes, patrol and clear obstacles
MOSCOW, May 12. /TASS/. The United Instrument-Making Corporation integrated into Russia’s state hi-tech firm Rostec is developing a universal tracked modular robotized platform for combat, fire-extinguishing operations and Arctic expeditions, a Russian defense official said on Tuesday.
"The platform was fully designed by Russian engineers and can carry two tons of payload. It moves at a speed of 40 km/hr [25 miles per hour] and has a unique control system and dimensions allowing for its use in urban conditions," the defense official said.
The developer intends to use the URP-01G platform to produce complexes for reconnaissance and delivering strikes, protection and patrolling, vehicles for mine and obstacle clearing, radiation and chemical reconnaissance, as well as vehicles for police and Arctic expeditions.
"At present, the firm Sistemprom [the platform developer] is developing a unique automated combat module with large-caliber machine-guns and the grenade launcher compartment and is designing the strike and reconnaissance modules with the use of aircraft," the defense official said.
United Instrument-Making Corporation Deputy CEO Sergey Skokov said the robotized vehicle is designed for operations in areas most hazardous for humans.
Today the UPR-01G platform can operate in a semi-automated mode within the 10 km (6 mile) radius from the control center.
In the future, the system will get a technical vision system allowing it to identify objects and navigate without the operator’s help, and also to get fully automated control with the elements of artificial intellect.
