Russia ready to sell MI-35 helicopters to Pakistan: Alexey Y. Dedov

Read Arsalan's post again. We don't need an assembly line just depot level maintenance which is already there.

I did talk about an assembly line for some medium lift helicopter and used Mi-17 as an example of medium lift helicopters. I understand that Russians may not allow an assembly line for THE Mi-17 helicopters. Pakistan is having depot level maintenance for Mi-8 (predecessor of Mi-17) for at least two decades and have learnt great deal about this particular type. Given the need of medium lift helicopters, we should pay attention to get them build in Pakistan.

I was responding to this line
"Whats the harm if we could establish a manufacturing facility with the help of China for medium lift helicopters such as Mi-17?"
China got one ..

Azerbaijani army use many Mi-35. probably Pakistan have tested it or see it and recieved our real experience reviews thanks to our good relationship..

We have used then in the past Afghan and soviet defectors .. Over half a dozen of them landed in Pak .. 1 was given to China .. 2 to USA.. Others remained in use for some time .. Some ended in scrapyards:

It is easy to acquire technology for light helicopter
it gets difficult to acquire technology for building medium to heavy helicopters

Russia usually allows India to make all kinds of systems under license. Mi-17 helicopters is one of the few where they have not allowed.

Saheb.
I fully understood the logic behind the post. As you have rightly mentioned it is a case of priorities. We dont need enough numbers to have an assembly line. However if things progress we may establish one . Commonality of engines/ equipment would be a key consìderation ingoing for such a platform

That may well have been the case. However the question for PAA remains the need and cost benefit both of which work against acquiring such technology. However if a need was felt rest assured a vendor would be found. Even for India if Russia does not give permission And the need is there they will acquire the tech from EU or some other providers. I think helo building is a lot more complex than jets and India might not yet be confident of its capabilities which maybe why they have not gone for it. My 2 pennies worth which may or may not be the fact.

Russia ready to sell MI-35 helicopters to Pakistan: Alexey Y. Dedov

Its been months and still no one knows the progress :angry:
Question is How many and when ?

. . .
I have seen 4, 20 and 40 (including some MI-28s) in different threads from different sources.
I think 20 is the commonly touted number. It is interesting that all of a sudden so many avenues have opened up for Pakistan all of a sudden. I think it would be foolish to dezert the Russians at this juncture and PAA must buy MI35. Whether PAA can use a competitive comparison to drive down the per unit cost is another thing and I think it would be fairly legitimate. The US deal Iam afraid is done and dusted as the offer is too good to refuse although the price could be negotiated. I feel sorry for our Turk brothers as it is likely THEY will lose out on this real.

Thank you for your post. I think our requirement for medium lift helo is around 80 units. Would you sstablish a building facility for that few numbers. I understand if we needed 100 plus units it might make sense. The second thing is the complexity of the helicopter and PAC ability to absorb the tech. I can say that at the moment PAC might find its hands too full to take on another project.

China started assembly line production of MI17 in 2008, don t think any problem for Pakistan.
