Russia ready to sell MI-35 helicopters to Pakistan: Alexey Y. Dedov

Somalia and Afghanistan? Things happen. Sometimes.

different scenario. in somalia you had black hawks dropping soldiers onto roof tops and flying only a hundred feet overhead.

i would think a battlehawk would be a few kilometers away when firing guided missiles and rockets and within 600 to 1000meters when firing the 20mm cannon

. .
no armor needed when surprise, range, and advance avionics/weapons would take out the enemy before they even knew you was there.
If only it were that simple.

Well if they can design helos that can withstand rpgs, that be impressive. But we've seen enough Mi helos with all that armor shot down with explosives equipped missiles or rockets.

Helicopters are not invisible nor are they silent, armor is needed that is why most attack helicopters and aircraft have armor. A helicopter can be seen and fired upon from miles away.

As for the frustration of lack of information. Contracts can take a while depending on conditions, also if Pakistan wants some extra or custom features it will generally take longer to negotiate and work out the details and then comes the fun part of manufacturing the aircraft.

Depends on the situation. Many times enemies don't even hear the helos because they are miles away.

I once new an MI-24 pilot, Mi-24s have been hit with stingers before and survived. Not every time but it has happened. Mi-24 often times would return to base after being hit with 12.7 caliber or heavier cannon fire. If the Mi-24 was unlucky enough to be hit in the engine it technically would "crash" but often times it was a crash landing where the Mi-24 was intact enough for the pilot do perform an autorotation and land the aircraft with no engine power.

you'd be surprise how stealthy helicopters are

This Apache was hit by a MANPAD and is not heavily armored all around with one loss engine and still returned to base.

Russian missile shooting down a Russian heli, the irony

If only it were that simple.

if you are going in like a rambo then yeah the heli with the most armor is your chopper

This contradicts your claim that if there was helicopters that can withstand rpgs it would be impressive. Sometimes helicopters can survive MANPADs, it depends on a lot of factors though, how big the warhead is, where it hits and how close it detonates next to the helicopter.

Plenty of Apaches and MI-24's have been downed while many other returned to base after taking heavy damage.

The irony is that you like to throw out random posts. No one said that an MI-24 is untouchable, only that it can take a lot of punishment and still return safely. Obviously not every Mi-24 was luck, just like not every apache that has been shot down was lucky either.

Let me rephrase that, it be impressive if it can withstand explosives with guarantee you won't be shot down. And as you said its based on luck. If you were in an Mi35, are you confident on your chance of staying in the air and live 100% everytime when hit by an rpg or MANPAD?

Nothing in life is 100%.

my point is I take range and precision over armor.

Mi-24 is designed to fly low and fast and take a beating

Which is why the MI-35 has long range standoff capabilities.
