Russia offers Iran missile defence systems

Russia has offered Iran its Antey-2500 missile defence system, a modified version of the S-300 missiles which Moscow had previously declined to provide Tehran due to international sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

"Tehran is now considering the offer," TASS news agency quoted Sergei Chemezov, chief executive officer of Rostec Corp. as saying Monday

"As far as Iran is concerned, we offered the Antey-2500 instead of S-300. They are thinking about it. No decision has been made yet," Chemezov added, according to the Moscow Times.

Speaking in Abu Dhabi, Chemezov explained that the Antey-2500 missile defence system is a modified version of the S-300 that Russia is obliged to provide to Iran under a contract signed in 2007.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has already addressed this issue with his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rohani, but Moscow has made the deal conditional on Tehran withdrawing the lawsuit it brought against Moscow in 2010 for the cancellation of the S-300 contract.

Recently, the defence ministers of Iran, Hossein Dehgan, and Russia, Sergei Shoigu, signed in Tehran a military cooperation agreement to combat terrorism and extremism.

Idealy:Iran should take a loan from Russia itself instead of paying for it so that it doesn't lose money, and withdrawal of the lawsuit should be after some number of systems have already been delivered

Or negotiate for a more advanced system?

Buddy to be honest , my knowledge of Antey-2500 was limited to soheil's posts and a couple of persian articles on the net condemning the move by russia .

these reactions are completely normal cause scrapping a deal is extremely insulting to a nation like iran . imagine if russia did the same to india ? what would your reaction be ? of course the same .

but when @Major Shaitan Singh posted an informing article about the system in this section , and i read it throughly , i reached the conclusion that A-2500 can actually be a very useful tool for iran , of course not as much as a possible S-400 deal , but definitely more than S-300 .

for the bellow reasons :

1- iran is already working on a big project named BAVAR-373 . bavar is going to do S-300's job for iran and even cover more responsibilities as it supposedly better than S-300 PMU-1 in every aspect .

2- iran really needs some BM protection with arising of new ballistic missiles in neighboring countries and regimes like israel .

My humble opinion though .
