Russia offers India a super submarine

Stop gap filler with multiple models ? Something is amiss in this logic !

Welcome to the Indian navy :p:

On a serious note - Indian navy needs the training on this platform..because of its future submarine programs.

Russian offer should be condidered for a immediate jump in our underwater attack capabilities by keeping our indigenous SSN's build up going along aswell. Work has started on a new class of vessels after a government go ahead two months ago and the target is to shorten the developmental time to under 15 years.
The government has given approvals for six new SSNs earlier this year, but still are at the pen to paper stage. Navy is planning to build at least six SSNs in India, with financial sanction given in February for the project that could cost upwards of Rs 90,000 crore. To be fitted with the indigenous vertically launched Brahmos missile, the vessels are to be built at the Vizag-based ship building centre with the involvement of L&T.

These are one of most advance subs in world. Lease two of these as our ssn will take atleast 1 decade and given previous records of our shipyard ,it maytake 15 years tooo.

Imo, it might not be a bad idea to go for modified Yasen class, considering India is playing catch up.
We can get all 6 submarines delivered in 10 years or less.
If we go on our own, first delivery will start after 15 years n then we will be a generation behind.

You are missing a point . First news : Russia to make India as it's base of kilo class subs maintenance . Then this news : Russia to build new ssn .

But the news we forgot : India to build 6 SSN on its own .

So I guess this will be our base design for our Advanced SSN . And future Advanced SSBN ... Logical ? I think so .

SSK will also have lots of technology involved from high vibration neutralisation technology (Stealth) of SSN ... Making our high tech less vibration engine supported SSK most dangerous in the region ... But it all gonna take lots of time . I guess we go for 2 off the shelves P75I and 6 be made in India . Additional 2-4 will also be most welcome in the next 5 years to deadlock our territory till future fleet SSN SSK takes shape

Russia could offer to build its latest nuclear submarine, possibly the multi-purpose ‘Yasen’ class sub suitably modified for India, analyst Zachary Keck wrote in an article for The National Interest.

A modified ‘Yasen’ class submarine, Russia’s latest nuclear sub, could be built specially for India, a report in the Indian ‘Economic Times’ newspaper suggested. The ET was quoting the analyst Zachary Keck who, in an article in ‘The National Interest,’ said it was possible that the new submarine would be one of the multi-purpose ‘Yasen’ class submarines, equipped with cruise missiles, or a modification of the Yasen.

According to Keck, the ET report states, India has been interested in leasing a multi-purpose attack submarine for quite a long while. This time, the Russian government has taken this interest on board and is developing a separate submarine for India.

"The final details are yet to be discussed, but at present it has been practically decided that a completely new submarine will be built", the ET quotes Keck as saying, while citing an anonymous source familiar with details of the project.

According to the article’s author, the ‘Yasen’ class submarine, if decided upon, will be a significant addition to India’s reduced submarine fleet.

"The Yasen class submarine is one of the most promising in the world. According to information available, the submarine crew comprises 90 people, and is designed to have a high degree of automation. Equipped with a new generation atomic reactor, the submarine can reach a maximum speed of 40 knots and, in silent mode, is capable of 20 knots”, said Kyle Mizokami in an interview with Keck.

The Yasen class submarine is equipped with eight vertical missile silos, four 650 mm torpedo tubes and four 533 mm torpedo tubes. The Yasen is also likely to be armed with the high speed underwater ‘Shkval’ torpedo, which has a radius of seven to thirteen km and a speed of up to 200 knots.

Indian arms procurements resemble a zoo. We are going to have 3 different models of carriers, all with the signature of 3 different countries - Russia, Italy, US.
