Russia is conducting a massive McDonald's purge

You need to read the 2nd paragraph of your own source:

And like I said before: If losing Crimea (or the Philippines losing Scarborough) is not a loss of territorial integrity, then only Heaven knows what is.

That means Russia is supposed to give security assurances that THEY wouldn't invade Ukraine...not assurances that countries would defend them if ANOTHER country did something.

.
Well America did promise to "protect Ukraine's territorial sovereignty" in exchange for Ukraine giving up their nukes in 1994.

No , they didn`t , Budapest treaty is memorandum which means there is no legal obligation by any of the signatories to enforce it. Ukraine got screwed by both Russia and USA over the nukes.

That's right, it was a non-binding agreement.

Not that it matters though. Since their mutual defence treaty with the Philippines absolutely is legally binding, yet they did not stop us from seizing Scarborough from the Philippines in 2012.

Nor did they do anything about North Korea sinking the warships of their close ally South Korea (again mutual defence treaty), killing hundreds of South Korean naval personnel. Or from building nukes, or from shelling South Korea whenever they feel like it.

The point is, countries will serve their own national interests first.

And seriously, which American wants to fight a nuclear war with Russia over the Ukraine. The mere suggestion is ludicrous.

It just meant Russia agreed not to threaten or attack them.

It means the US agreed to not threaten or attack them.

It means the UK agrees not to threaten or attack them.

It doesn't say anything about defending them.

Actually, some in Ukraine thought Ukraine should give away strategic nukes but keep some tactical. It was US pressure that removed both.

You`re right , i mean great powers play their games but they certainly don`t want to nuke each other. They want to have nuclear free proxies :-)

Those memorendums are nullified the day Ukraine refused to pay for gas that was already on discount for using military bases on crimea, not paying bills will terminate all deals and 2nd Charta of UN proved it right.

.
Pretty childish reaction by Putin. It's like 3 year olds fighting. Is it just McDonalds or other western restaurants as well?

KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Starbucks, Costa etc?

I don't think it's wrong to try to protect one's own domestic markets, everyone does it.

Like when America banned Huawei due to "security concerns", or whatever reason they decided to come up with.

It's their market, so it is their call.

Same with everyone else.

Hey if that was part of the deal then Putin is in the clear when it comes to the Budapest Memorandum. I'm sure Ukraine wasn't given a free ticket to not pay its bills and point at that document as a "get out of jail free" card.

Technology and fast food are two distinct industries bro. Unless McDonalds was instigating an uprising against Putin ( i say Putin, because there is no government in Russia, only Putin) there is no reason to take away something from your people, which you yourself allowed in the first place. By that regard, a lot of the stuff in Russia, from Automobiles to Restaurants/Airlines should be closed as well to protect domestic market. But we all know that Russian cars are not the very best, and Russian airlines neither.

Fast food is not really a high technology market, it could easily be replaced by domestic players with good supply chains.

I don't think losing out on MacDonalds is such a bad thing, I had a double cheeseburger from there once, it was just two pieces of bread with some meat, and a slice of cheese. Oh and a pickle.

Any domestic player would be glad to have such an opportunity, and it is likely they will know the tastes and preferences of their fellow Russians better.

An example is Google in China. Contrary to perceptions, it was never banned. Google's market share in China fell from 29% in 2010 to 1.5% in 2013, and even though 1.5% is not bad for such a large market, they lost out entirely to Baidu.

The reason is because Baidu is a local company, they know what we want better than any foreigners could do. Therefore they concentrated on Chinese-language search, whereas Google missed that boat.

Domestic companies are dying for a chance to become big. And they have unique advantages that foreign companies do not have. They should have that chance, not just have everything American from Google to MacDonalds.

Chinese Dragon is a very patriotic person. This is him in the HK protests.
