Russia says there is a “concrete” agreement with Iran for purchasing 12 Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger planes.

Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak told Sputnik news agency that the two countries had been negotiating over purchasing 100 Sukhoi Superjets for the past 18 months.

However, Novak added, they were only able to reach a deal regarding 12 aircraft at the moment.

"We are working out with our Iranian partners supply of our Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. Our colleagues have confirmed that there is a concrete agreement for 12 planes already,” Sputnik quoted the Russian minister as saying.

“In the short term, we are considering 30 aircraft. This is just the beginning, because overall, the Iranians are interested in purchasing 100 Sukhoi Superjet aircraft.”

Russia’s media reported last December that the country’s aviation giant Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company has signed a basic agreement with Iran to sell its Superjet 100 planes to the country.

Interfax news agency announced in a report that the agreement – which it said had been signed with an unnamed Iranian company – enabled both sides to study the projected sales.

The news agency quoted an anonymous Russia aviation official as confirming the development. The official added, however, that the agreement was still not binding.

Hossein Alaei, the head of Iran’s Aseman Airlines, had earlier said that his company was negotiating with Sukhoi as well as several other leading global plane makers to renovate its fleet.

Alaei added that Sukhoi had carried out trial flights of its Superjet 100 in Tehran in 2016 – what he said had been carried out at the invitation of Aseman Airlines.

Iran’s Aseman Airlines says it has already started talks to purchase Sukhoi Superjet passenger planes from Russia.
Meanwhile, Maqsoud As’adi Samani, the secretary of the Association of Iranian Airlines, was quoted by the domestic media as saying in February that Sukhoi was moving closer to a deal to sell its Superjet 100 aircraft to the country.

As’adi Samani added that Sukhoi had already started technical talks to obtain a license from the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to sell the planes to Iran.

“The manufacturer of Sukhoi Superjet 100 is following procedures to receive due OFAC permits to enter Iran’s market,” he was quoted as saying by Iran’s Mehr News Agency.

Iran Interested in Purchase of 100 Sukhoi Superjet Planes

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that there is a concrete agreement between Russia and Iran for purchase for 12 planes already.
VLADIVOSTOK (Sputnik) — Iran has shown interest in purchasing 100 Russia’s medium-haul Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) passenger planes but the agreement has only been reached regarding 12 aircraft as of the moment, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Saturday.

"We are working out with our Iranian partners supply of our Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. Our colleagues have confirmed that there is a concrete agreement for 12 planes already. In the short term, we are considering 30 aircraft. This is just the beginning, because overall, the Iranians are interested in purchasing 100 Sukhoi Superjet aircraft," Novak said.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said talks were underway about exporting SSJ100 planes to Iran.

The SSJ100 is a twin-engine plane made by Russia's Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company. It can transport up to 98 passengers at a distance of up to 2,700 miles, and costs around $36 million in its basic configuration. The jet made its maiden flight in May 2008.

No point in setting up a production line for just 12 planes. If they go the full 100 they may do so.

.
Are they fu#king serious? a non binding agreement for 12??,with possibly, maybe.perhaps[?] another 18[30 total] and it took 18 months just to negotiate that...something tells me that it doesnt really sound like theres a lot of serious interest there from iran, either that or the russians despite all their talk of co-production just werent offering a good enough deal for iran to bother with more than 12.
Hang on a minute, are we sure this isnt just a late april 1st announcement as in :yahoo:APRIL FOOL!:yahoo:

There is a possibility Iran is using superjet as a bargaining chip. Obviously Russia has had a lot of trouble selling it. So Iran could maybe play a buy 100-200 of supejet + getting tot of su30 of some sorts.

Only if there is some kind of military hardware tot then this makes sense. Otherwise there are much better regional jets on the market.

supejet has really become a political headache for Russia. And for every time they get a no or a deal gets cancelled then they are losing sight to become a civil aviation player. You may have noticed how Russian newspapers report even slight roumors of the possibility that there might be a sale. I think Iran is playing on this to get a really good deal.

In my opinion Superjet is good civil airplane and it's price is fair but they are unable to sell because of western Capitalism policy, at the moment western troops are on the ground on any single lilipot country in the world.

we shouldn't repeat irAN140 mistake again before assemble it in big number, I think is better to know it's abilities.

It means more sales for tons of Western equipments and components.

I say good for France.

You can also order for Airbus or ATR planes if you wish.

Does Iran want some TGV high speed rail? Or some autonomous vehicles in campus, compounds, factories and apartments complexes?

Some good money to be made in untapped Iranian market, actually.

For the record, a major part of sukhoi superjet 100 is French origin material.

SaM 146 engine is French origin.

And most parts are sourced from France or other Western countries.

SuperJet-100 contains an estimated 80% of Western air components, while MS-21 has about 50% of Western components.
