Russia delivers 11 MiG jets to India: official.

MOSCOW: Russia has dispatched 11 MiG fighter jets to India to equip the aircraft carrier it will deliver next year, head of the MiG corporation Sergei Korotkov said on Wednesday.

"We have already delivered 11. Five more will be delivered by the end of the year," he told reporters as quoted by the Interfax news agency.

Russia signed a contract in 2004 to supply 16 MiG-29K/KUB jets as part of its agreement to modernise the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov for the Indian Navy.

The refurbishment contract was initially valued at 974 million dollars and stipulated the delivery of the carrier in 2008.

But the price of modernising the ship, which will have the name Vikramaditya (All-Powerful) in the Indian Navy, later grew to $1.5 billion while deadlines extended by several years.

In March 2010, the countries inked an additional $1.5 billion deal for 29 more MiG fighter jets.

Russia has started work on the order, and the first jet was presented to an Indian representative in the assembly workshop, Korotkov said Wednesday.

Delivery of the second batch of jets as well as the carrier will start in 2012, according to the contract.

Russia has been a longtime military supplier to India and still provides about 70 percent of its military equipment, although India has looked to other countries like Israel and the United States as potential suppliers.

hope they have naval lca ready by the time the carriers hit the sea.

I think around 14-16 right now including this order. The total plan is to have 45 of them.

.
so this one comes with Zhuk-ME radar no AESA like mig-35

.
No AESA so far, may be in MLU time...

I hope DRDO gets AESA soon as they are able to make it for AWACS..

Russia's MiG starts on new batch of carrier fighters for Indian Navy

MOSCOW, August 3 (RIA Novosti)

Russia's MiG aircraft corporation has launched production of a new batch of MiG29K/KUB carrier fighters for the Indian Navy, a MiG spokesman said on Wednesday.

The fighters are to be delivered under a 2010 contract, the spokesman said.

Under the $1.5-billion contract, Russia will supply 29 MiG-29K Fulcrum-D jets to New Delhi starting in 2012.

The first jet was presented to an Indian representative in the assembly workshop.

The fighters will be based at an air field in Goa on India's west coast until the Admiral Gorshkov joins the Navy under the name of INS Vikramaditya in early 2013.

The Vikramaditya is expected to carry up to 24 MiG-29K/KUB fighters.

^^^^^Are the numbers authentic? The earlier news was that the Gorky will carry 16 MiG 29K's and some(10?) Helicopters due to it's design flaws for a carrier.

The Phazotron Zhuk AE AESA radar has been ready for 2 years now and was unveiled at the MAKS 2009. It was primarily developed for the Mig-35, the successor to the Mig-29.

Zhuk radar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Technologically the Zhuk AE compares best to first generation US AESAs like the 1990s APG-63(V)2 design deployed in limited numbers on the F-15C fleet. The technology especially for module packaging is similar to late 1980s US developmental designs." "The first observation any Western radar engineer will make is that the Zhuk ME with 652 TR channels has between 50% and 70% of the TR channels of a comparably sized US radar, which is typically in the 900 to 1200 single TR channel module count class. This is a byproduct of the packaging technology available to Russian industry, which is a generation behind the US and EU in this area."
The Zhuk AE is still under development and not operational. It has yet to cross significant technological barriers before it reaches the levels of efficiency needed by any modern air force. That was one of the reasons for India not opting for the Mig - 35.
