Ultimately self reliance is the way to go. Toys are good for a small skirmish, but own stuff, even 2nd rate, is needed for a long war.


The Army is equally a culprit with their penchant for things foreign. If you dont try indigenous stuff, how will it ever evolve and improve. Tejas / Arjun all going down the drain.

As long as India depends on government owned industry to produce weapons I doubt if it is ever going to get anywhere. At the end of the day it is entirely natural for humans to work the system -- any system -- for their own betterment, whatever kind of system that may be. And a government owned industry is easier to work more then an independent industry. I wonder how may jobs people have at HAL because of polticians and how many are incompentent and they cant fire because they are poltically connected.

So far there is no PAKFA, there is a T10 and so far 3 or 4 prototypes have been built. There is some doubt that Russia has the manufacturing capability of production of an highly advanced aircraft.

Ehmmm ??? First of all - T50. Second - have you seen the video of PAK-FA's flights? This aircraft is dozen times more manoeuvrable than any created before. According to plan his production will begin in 2015-2016, so - what doubts?

Russia and China's number one focus is the USA. India is a secondary concern. Giving that their primary concern is the USA, its natural for these two countries to have defense cooperation. Irrespective of India's part in the equation as its secondary to that of USA.

Try look at the recents arms trade in 2 folds

1. Businessmen goes where the money is, do you think Russia, even a good friend of the Indians, would care to balance the situation between China and India?

2. Russia. Could also be baiting Indian for more sophisticated weaponry, if they could get Indian all riled up about more advanced weaponry sold to china, will they be expecting a bigger order of more weapon made for India ?

Now, as some member here said, those weapon bought by china were also offered by Russia to India, member here need to loosen up and not treat any move by any one a conspiracy. You are reading too much into some deal, I mean, it just business
