Lavrov says strong bilateral ties to help build regional stability, prosperity | Tells Aziz Moscow supports Islamabad's entry into SCO as member

ISLAMABAD - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Friday said that his country is keen to expand its relations with Pakistan since close cooperation between Pakistan and Russia would not only be of benefit to the two countries but would also help in building stability and prosperity in the region. According to Foreign Office, the Russian Foreign Minister made this statement in a meeting with Sartaj Aziz, advisor to the prime minister on national security and foreign affairs, in Moscow on Friday.

The advisor in his response said there was also a consensus in Pakistan for improving relations with Russia. The prime minister has a new vision for Pakistan. It is based on creating economic partnerships with nations. Pakistan, therefore, wants to develop a multidimensional relationship with Russia in the fields of trade, energy, infrastructure development, defence and culture.

Both the leaders agreed that the positive role of recent and forthcoming high level exchanges between the two countries would help in moving forward this objective. During the meeting, situation in Afghanistan, cooperation in the efforts against extremism and terrorism, drugs control, and situation in the Middle East, including Syria and Iraq, was also discussed.

In the course of discussion, it was agreed that the forthcoming Summit meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Dushanbe in September would provide a useful opportunity for discussing the emerging situation in the post-2014 Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Lavrov conveyed that Russia fully supported Pakistan's entry into SCO as a full member. The two leaders agreed that there was considerable scope for cooperation in the field of energy since Pakistan has a very large scale programme to overcome its energy crisis and many Russian companies are keen to participate in this programme.

Aziz informed Lavrov that Pakistan was looking forward to the next meeting of the inter-governmental commission on trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation in November 2014 in Moscow as well as the joint working group on energy preceding the IGC. Aziz thanked Lavrov for Russian agreement to provide MI-35 helicopters to Pakistan and expressed the hope that Pakistan's further request for defence equipment would also be considered soon as part of Pak-Russia continued defence collaboration.

The Russian foreign minister welcomed prime minister's recent meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed the hope that constructive dialogue and improved relations between the two countries would be beneficial for the security and stability of the region. Before his return to Pakistan, Aziz told a correspondent of ItarTass News Agency that his visit to Russia was successful since he and Foreign Minister Lavrov not only agreed on the need for better relations but had also worked on a roadmap with timelines to carry the relationship forward. Earlier, the advisor to the prime minister on national security and foreign affairs attended the 'Fifth Meeting of High Officials responsible for Security' in Kazan on 19 June 2014.

This is yet another triumph for Pakistan diplomacy. We need to rebuild our ties with Russia and take them to a strategic level. India should join in and trust Pakistan with pipelines from C.Asia. It will be a wholesome game if all regional powers, China, Russia, India and Pakistan formed a strong economic/military block.

Well sorry to break it to you bud, but Indians are busy spreading terrorism in Pakistan & unstable Pakistan is Indian interest. India is trying to become US of the region, which of course is not possible. You should stop dreaming & come in to the real world, which is Indians supporting terrorism against Pakistan & illegal water war against Pakistan.

Something I've been saying all along and our Indian members here didn't like the fact. Here's another proof of the future through a very visible Crystal ball.

Two powers are backing us up for our bid on SCO, Lets see how fast does this get implemented.

By the way when are those Mi-35 coming to Pakistan? Also what other wishlist has Mr. Aziz forwarded to the Russians? Any clue

yesterday itself your fellow members are happy for Us 900 m on Pakistan bowl... actually if you see terrorists are belongs to Islam. .. they are doing terrorism in the name of jihad. who is inviting US. The one who gone tit for tat move with US in diplomatic row.. or the one doing festival for biscuits in bowl...

Get rid of the jihadi infrastructure and their breeding ground and you will get a lot more than MI35's to keep the jihadi expressway clear.

P.S. The Jihadi expressway starts from Uzbek, Chechen, Tajik, Pustun STAN's through Afghanistan and pakistan all the way to ME and Islamic Magreb of Africa and Somalia.

I think that is why Pakistan is being brought into SCO.So that it can be made to dismantle the terrorist apparatus it operates. Likely ,China will get that done. Chechen terrorists have been crushed. Uzbek ones ,the way karimov kills them they don't dare do terror in Uzbekistan.

No dude the only people happy for the US 900 million is the Bald Brothers ...we'd rather eat a dry bread with water than US aid and trust me not a single penny of the aaid is spent on us,it all goes to the swiss accounts of those filthy politicians

Seriously, Pak-Russia ties getting stronger makes me happy. I totally despise the decision Pakistan had made of siding with USA.its time to free ourselves from US claws because half of our problems are due to USA..

Dude - chechens, uzbeks, tajiks, taliban, tribal pakistanis are fighting in syria, iraq, somalia, and north africa. The whole belt is a jihadi factory thats feeding bokos, shabaabs, isis, aqim etc. They fight alongside the local recruits. Soviet era weapons, drugs and jihadis are channelled through that region, their training camps are in afghanistan and pakistan. The whole jihadi caravan was passing through pakistan unhindered all this while, It will be a good strategy to create chocke points on the way and pakistan can play a good role in it.

Dude ,the maximum jihadis fighting in Syria are from :

1)Saudi Arabia
2)Tunisia
3)Pakistan
4)Somalia

Out of 300,000 terrorists operating majority are arabs, african, pakistanis .Chechens are 1,700 and for them Kadyrov has already sent elimination units. Those who went from Chechnya do you know what is done to their families ?They are brutally killed.Same in Uzbekistan.

That is why these terrorists don't do terror in Chechnya or Uzbekistan. There is not much terror apparatus in Central asia which exception of ferghana valley and it is impossible for the islamists to operate thanks to karimov. Karimov is very brutal to terrorists and so is Kadyrov. That is why chechen or uzbek jihadi shudder and fear doing terror there.

Kadyrov is a former islamic militant himself, the russian's ended up supporting the islamic rebels they liked as opposed to the out right jihadi's

Kadyrov has made his own islamic fiefdom, with alot of autonomy and Moscow funding for islamic projects.

Look it up, apart from out right independence what didnt the chechens get??
