Russia and Pakistan Hold High level Meeting

JV's in the future, SU-35's, Russian BVR missiles, Tanks and AD are the main things being discussed.

If you read the Chinese history, they've never been the aggressors. Rather, they maintain a bigger defensive posture. Its India who wants to be a "Super Power" and has sold the West that it would tackle the Islamic countries and China.

Sadly, the West has bought into it primarily due to the size of India and 1.2 billion people and trade aspects. Indian lobbyists have done a great job in paying everyone very well also to silence the opposition. US labor market is a witness to this, has anyone asked, why are there millions of Indians coming every year? Where is the American labor? No, no one's asked that question because the one's should be asking, got paid big $$$$ to stay silent and instead, complain about Mexicans, the Chinese, etc.

So just like this, India is too busy milking the West and showing "opposition" to China and Pakistan. While knowing VERY WELL, her future is linked directly with China. And strategists in the US (majority being paid by the Indian lobby) ignore this aspect.

But sooner or later, India will join the CPEC. Its her need more than China or Pakistan's. No Western country can help the Indian lower middle class and the small businesses grow faster than being a part of the Chinese, Pakistani, Russian, Irani, Turkish and Central Russian market!!

India needs American technology. India needs Chinese business. But we do not need CPEC. India and China have a long border to construct roads

Dude what are you shitting. China is sending satellites into space now. They already got the required technology just in process of mastering it further.

robotics will send some jobs from China back into America

In a first, Pakistan, Russia to hold joint war games

ISLAMABAD: South Asia appears to be on the cusp of a strategic realignment, though nobody is ready to talk about it candidly. Pakistan and Russia are set to hold their first-ever joint military exercises later this year, officials and diplomatic sources said on Sunday. Not only that, Islamabad is also considering purchase of advanced Russian warplanes.

The joint military drill is seen as another step in growing military-to-military cooperation, indicating a steady growth in bilateral relationship between the two countries, whose ties had been marred by Cold War rivalry for decades.

20 nations, including Pakistan join major military manoeuvre in Saudi

A senior Pakistani official said that around 200 military personnel from the two sides would take part in the joint military exercises scheduled for later this year.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Moscow Qazi Khalilullah told The Express Tribune that this is the first time that military personnel from the two countries would be taking part in joint military drills, otherwise called ‘Friendship-2016’. He, however, did not divulge further details about the nature of the exercises or dates.

The development, Khalilullah said, reflected increased cooperation between the two countries. “This obviously indicates a desire on both sides to broaden defence and military-technical cooperation,” he separately told a Russian news agency last week.

Islamabad decided to broaden its foreign policy options after its relations with the United States deteriorated first due to a secret raid at Abbottabad to kill al Qaeda kingpin Osama bin Laden in May 2011 and then killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers in Nato airstrikes at Salala check post along the Afghan border.

The joint session of parliament after debating the negative fallout of the US and Nato actions approved the new foreign policy guidelines that envisaged reaching out to Russia.

Russia boosting ties with Pakistan: Putin

Based on the recommendations of the recent envoys’ conference, Pakistan’s foreign ministry also called for increased engagements with Russia.

Those recommendations also stemmed from recent developments where US lawmakers blocked funds for eight Lockheed Martin Corporation’s F-16 fighter jets. The US was supposed to partly fund the deal, paying $430 million, but US lawmakers blocked it for Pakistan’s apparent lack of action against militants.

Pakistan decided to look at alternative sources to purchase the aircraft including from Jordan, with Turkey offering to modernise Pakistan’s existing fleet of fighters.

Over the last 15 months, the chiefs of Pakistan’s Army, Navy and Air Force travelled to Russia in a development signalling the growing defence ties between the two countries. The flurry of high-level exchanges resulted in the signing of a deal between Pakistan and Russia for the purchase of four MI-35 attack helicopters.

The formal agreement, which was signed in Moscow in August 2015, was considered a major policy shift on part of Russia in the wake of growing strategic partnership between the US and India.

Moscow for long ignored Islamabad in a bid to please its long-term ally New Delhi. But as a result of India’s growing tilt towards the US, Russia has now begun to expand its cooperation with Pakistan.

For its part, Islamabad is eager to improve its ties with Moscow to diversify its options in the event of any stalemate in ties with Washington.

After securing a deal of MI-35 helicopters, Pakistan is also exploring options to buy Su-35 fighter jets from Russia. For this purpose, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman visited Moscow in July.

The Pakistani ambassador said the PAF chief held ‘fruitful’ discussions with Russian authorities but would not provide further details of new military purchases, including the multirole, air superiority fighter Sukhoi Su-35.

Other defence officials were quoted by Russian news agency as saying that Pakistan was still in initial stages of negotiation for these weapons platforms and that the military was also looking at anti-tank weapons and air defense systems.

Russia- China - Pakistan nexus can become strategically important in Asia.

.
Russia neither trusts Pakistan nor China.
Secondly, Pakistan has more of its diaspora in the west with dual citizenships hence it will be tough due to great CI A presence in Pakistan.
Confidence building measures are on way. I wont be surprised that China has a significant hand in bringing Pakistan and Russia closer.

my dear
there is no military exercise

I never anything about a military exercise as a confidence building measure. Everything starts from meetings.

Quote from The diplomat:
Russia is embroiled in a showdown with the West over Ukraine, with Moscow’s military adventure in Crimea being followed by Western sanctions. In the Asia-Pacific, China encroachment in south China sea has inflamed tensions with other Asia-Pacific countries allied with the U.S. These developments have forced Russia and China to look for allies.

.
Confidence building measures are routine. Therr have been anti narco and anto human trafficking drill with the russian counter part and pak.
CBM are not a routine amongst old enemies. They are a start with meetings and then continue off.

But when you are planning something for long term strategic goals , its completly different.
Everything takes time, but eventually gets there. SCO and CPEC can have long lasting effects.

Russians are aware that there is a big n very strong pro american lobby in Pak army and Pak parliament. Hence it will be close to impossible for any such deal. Or exercise.
Good you brought it up.
The Russians are ofcourse interested in breaking that lobby and shifting Pakistan towards itself (common sense) whereas Pakistan and PAF has also seen the USA response regarding Pakistan Army sacrifices, do-more rhetoric, F-16 saga and mane more, so the lobby is dying down and Pakistan is also looking for new avenues. This shows that both parties are interested as seen in the video also.

You are entitled to your own opinion which i find far from reality and i do find in your posts a jealousy or stiffness against Russia coming closer to pakistan. Try reading news more to enlighten yourself of current geo-political trends.

Can China and Pakistan help Russia with any strategic goals in Ukraine ? It is a marriage of convenience at best

.
Russians are not interested in any such thing.
Thats your personal opinion and holds ZERO value
It is the chinese who are interested in breaking that lobby. But half of your army went in crying mode on how Indian PM was facilitated in Washington DC, in US Parliament by the US congress.
Now you are showing true colours and the jealousy and stiffness has started to come out.
It shows the how desperate the Pak army and politicians are to get back the status of great friends and allies of US like Pak had during 1960-1970.
Useless personal opinion again. You just joined my ignore list, congratulations.

Security rebalancing is taking place in our region, our indian friends need a lesson in international relations if they think their so called influence can prevent Russia from having a strong defence relationship with Pakistan !!!

With a defense budget of $7.6 billion and friendship with China Pakistan would be hard pressed to order more than few hundred million in Russian hardware each year.

With a defense budget of $7.6 billion and friendship with China Pakistan would be hard pressed to order more than few hundred million in Russian hardware each year.

Defence budget is supposed to increase each year proportional to rapid improvement in economy (2.6% of the GDP) and changing dynamics of the region, one would be naive to assume that budget will remain at $ 8.24 Billion ( 860 Billion Rupees allocated for 2016-17).

But what 'strong defense relation' is having in between pakistan and russia ?

That is precisely what I am saying, Pakistan and Russia have been former cold war rivals. Other than Mi-17's Pakistan hasn't operated much Russian equipment. First ever military exercises in 70 years this month , mutual high level military delegation visits show that the bi lateral defense and strategic ties are adapting to the rapidly evolving security re balancing in this region.
