ISLAMABAD: The federal government is planning to focus on energy projects in the budget for the upcoming financial year 2014-15 to overcome energy crisis in the country.
Sources told on Sunday that the government has decided to allocate a huge amount of Rs 260 billion in the federal budget for 2014-15 to initiate several new energy generation projects, besides expediting work to complete the ongoing electricity infrastructure schemes.
The new energy projects for which funds are likely to be allocated in the upcoming budget include Diamer Bhasha Dam and Dasu Hydropower Project. Both the projects are estimated to generate over eight thousand megawatts of electricity. The work on 969 megawatt Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project will also be expedited in the next financial year.
Similarly special allocation is being made for up-gradation of electricity generating units at Mangla Dam. The up-gradation will add 310 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
The sources said that the government has also decided to launch Tarbela Dam fourth extension hydropower project in the next financial year, which is likely to generate 2800 megawatts of electricity.
Special allocations will be made to complete 7,100-megawatt Bunji Hydropower Project in Gilgit-Baltistan and Golan Gol Hydropower Project in Chitral. The hydropower projects will generate cheap electricity, providing relief to the inflation-hit people.

Good going, seem like Ganjas are very serious about Basha, Dasu and Bunji dams! Also there is typo, they meant Tarbela 5th extension which combined with 4th extension will produce extra 2800mw.
