West Country Royal Marines have been in Paris - for a ceremony to mark the 20th year of military partnership with the French.

3 Commando Brigade RM and 9e Brigade d'Infanterie de Marine, the French amphibious army brigade, attended an anniversary ceremony at the historic Les Invalides.

Royal Marines from 40 Commando based at Norton Fitzwarren, near Taunton provided the guard and colour party, ad a Royal Marines corps of drums joined with Breton pipe sand band of 9e Brigade d'infantrie de Marine.

It was a fitting event to celebrate the past 20 years of collaboration between the two brigades and also to mark the production and signing of a Combined Joint Expeditionary Force agreement.

Brigadier Charlie Stickland (Commander 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines – based in Plymouth) said: "Standing in the shadow of Napoleon it was truly a memorable event, made even more gratifying due to the tangible delivery of the Combined Landing Force driving reality and pragmatism into our relationship seeking to enable genuine delivery.

"Given the French attendance and its location and conduct, this 'brigadier level' event had national significance to our French partners. They remain genuinely enthusiastic about the collaboration between our two brigades and are keen to strengthen ties through our planned exercises this autumn."

Presiding over the event was the Military Governor of Paris Lieutenant General Charpentier, an ex Chief of General Staff and Commander of 9e Brigade d'Infanterie de Marine. Major General Wilson (retired) was the senior British officer present and represented the head of the Royal Navy (First Sea Lord) and Commandant General Royal Marines. Also on parade were Brigadier General Vincent Guionie, the current Commander 9e Brigade d'Infanterie de Marine, the Brigade Commander, and the COs and RSMs of both brigades.

Witnessing the ceremony, in addition to a large crowd of tourists and other onlookers, were VIPs invited from both the UK and France. Brigadier JJ Thomson CBE QGM (rtd), ex Commander 3 Commando Brigade RM, attended having signed the first partnership agreement twenty years earlier in 1995.

Those hats are worthless and the salute is wrong and girly, they could at least get some DSI to makeup for those shortfalls. But nevertheless worthless...

I don't know if anyone told you but DSI jokes are funny only the first 10 times.

I don't know if anyone told you but DSI is a lifestyle. In any case don't worry about DSI worry about your negative count.

.
I don't know if anyone told you that but that is still not funny. And please, I don't give a **** about -ve count on a **** forum.

I don't know if anyone told you but you can stop quoting me and telling me you don't care because i don't care that you don't care. At the end of the day the DSI thing is an inside joke that i mostly share with a few members, so i could care less if you don't like it or think it's not funny after all this is a public forum.

Please tell me more about about how and what i should say...i am eager to hear your opinion and even more eager to follow your suggestions.

As for @Gabriel92 i am always busting his balls about French soldiers, i don't mean it literally and he gets the DSI jokes, even if they are getting stale, so the joke was directed at him and not you.

Those caps are not used anymore, the current style is smaller, but it had a dual purpose of windbreaker and shelter.

Idiot. You are the one who said 'stop quoting me'.
And then went off on a bitching spree about how................................'I don't care'..,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,..'I dont care this'..............'I don't care that'

This being a 'public forum' :pleasantry: I too can and I will write whatever I want. You don't decide what's my BUSINESS or not,
UNDERSTAND?

Screw off. Straight to the ignore list.

You have comprehension problems, you quoted me then you started "bitching", i told you i did not give a damn and told you to stop telling me what i can write, then i told you to stop quoting me because you should mind your own business. Like i told you previously, mind your own business.

If you chose to continue trying to be the forum police by telling me what i can write and what is not funny then you certainly have the right, but at the end of the day you are showing off your stupidity and showing to everyone that you have a habit of sticking your nose where it does not belong.

Long live British -French cooperation. Les deux pays de mes ancêtres.:smitten:

The UK and France have agreed to strengthen defence co-operation following a summit at RAF Brize Norton today.
President Francois Hollande and David Cameron at RAF Brize Norton
A communiqué signed by UK Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Francois Hollande sets out plans for closer ties between the 2 countries.
Building on the Lancaster House treaty signed in 2010, the agreements further the security and prosperity of the 2 nations through commitments to jointly invest in the procurement of defence equipment, the joint training of armed forces and the continued development of the Anglo-French Combined Joint Expeditionary Force.
Both countries have today signed:
a statement of intent for a future combat air system, which would launch a 2-year, £120 million joint feasibility phase that will see British and French industries working together
technical arrangements for our exchange programme to provide RAF pilots and engineers with experience of operating the A400M ahead of the delivery of the UK’s first aircraft later this year; and for French pilots to gain flying experience on the RAF’s A330 Voyager aircraft
a memorandum of understanding confirming joint orders for a future helicopter-launched, anti-surface guided weapon for our navies

Agreements have also been reached that will see:
a £10 million contract for the development of underwater vehicles capable of finding and neutralising seabed mines
investment in the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston, Berkshire, to allow collaboration on and safe testing of UK and French stockpiles and greater sharing of technical and scientific data to further joint research
further co-operation between both armies in the areas of equipment capability and interoperability
Both countries also agreed to build on international peacekeeping missions carried out by their respective forces in Libya, Mali and the Central African Republic.
Defence Secretary Philip Hammond and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, agreed to continue the development of a Combined Joint Expeditionary Force capable of carrying out co-ordinated expeditionary military operations.
The 2 nations also agreed joint efforts to tackle security issues in north and west Africa, in particular terrorism, as well as drug and arms trafficking to achieve long term stability in the regions.
Mr Hammond said:
Britain and France are natural partners for defence co-operation. We have made substantial progress since the Lancaster House treaty was signed in 2010 and today we have committed ourselves to go further still.
The agreements we have reached at this summit will improve the interoperability of our forces, enhance our joint equipment procurement and build on our capacity to support security and stability in places such as Libya, Mali and the Central African Republic.
