I wonder how people of Iran compare the two leaders. From outside it looks like Ahmadinejad advanced the defence industry in Iran but ignored most other things. Rouhani on the other hand, is working towards social reforms but the defence industry is put to sleep during his time.

Of course this is all speculation. How do you Iranians compare the two?

One doesn't have to be Iranian to know that signing a rather imbalanced deal that involved weak returns for the concessions made was foolish. The sanctions get lifted (some, not all) and Iran can now do business with many eager partners from Europe, especially those seeking an alternative to Russian energy supplies. Then every 2 months Israel throws a hissy fit and the investors, purchasers and buyers get scared off and run away and the Iranians get zilch.

It wasn't just defense sector, Iran had the highest science growth rate in the world during Ahmadinejad era. he advanced Iran's aerospace programs, nuclear energy program, defense industries, infrastructure projects throughout the whole Iran, etc.

Ahmadinejad's unprecedented speed frightened world powers (east and west), so they united to apply the harshest sanctions on Iran in his last years of presidency, particularly Iran's access to swift system was blocked, naturally this affected Iran's economy specially the currency rate.

Then Rouhani with the promise of fixing all economic problems through lifting the sanctions was elected, he shut down all infrastructure and R&D projects (in all sectors), and with the policy of open market, opened import doors, for example Iran's import from china tripled in less than two years! and as what we expect from Reformists, he trusted the U.S with a shitty deal; but they didn't remove the main sanctions which was access to currency exchange system, so Iran couldn't access to the money which was superficially released after the deal, Iran could sell oil, but couldn't receive it's money! so again Rouhani started to import further foreign products instead of the oil money, naturally thousands of domestic production lines were closed in 2015 (the year which JCPOA was implemented) and following years.

and now in 2018, we are seeing the results of his policies, dollar's value has tripled since the sign of that shitty deal and it's going up with a sharp angle, Iran's economy is much much worse than the time of harshest sanctions during Ahmadinejad era.

and yes, defense sector is in coma too, Rouhani reduced defense ministry's budget by 85%, almost no new achievement during Rouhani era and especially recent years, all defense projects are facing several years of delays.

I have no knowledge of how internally things are in Iran. There is hardly any information available on how politics actually work in Iran and the process is mind boggling complicated since Iran has incorporated Democracy in a unique way.

However I did vote for Ahmedinijad. Simply because something has to change for Iran and for the good of the people.

That's not a fun question . let make it more fun
You prefer Basir leader like Rouhani or Ahmadinejad or non Nadir ones like Moosavi or Karrubi ? :p:

Nejad was disaster for Iran and Iranians

Both of them have no business being President....2 gold fish trying to swim with sharks, only difference is Ahmadinejad actually thought he was smart.

what I liked about Karrobi (regardless of his character) was his party ,,,for the first time there was a manifest to hear, cabinet was introduced even before election and a road map ... what we need ain't a super president with super powers as if Bush or Trump are .. what we lack is strong parties which have clear intentions and plans backed by academic centers which you could study ... and a System that create frameworks ,, tactics could be different .. no matter who is president.
So I think the problem ain't whom should or should not be president as far as you do the same things outcome is the same ...
