Unfortunately due to Russia-Ukraine war, commercial production of the 1st unit will now not happen till 2024 as opposed to the original planned 2023.

The 2 reactor units by 2025 will generate 15% of BD's electricity demand with cheap and clean energy.
Another 500MW of cheap and clean power will come from a hydroelectric power plant from Nepal through India from 2026.

As the decade progresses then BD can look forward to cheap and reliable power due to the balanced energy policy of Hasina and her AL government.

"The construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) is progressing smoothly. The plant may be ready to begin production in 2024.

Trial runs of production at the plant are expected to begin at the end of next year, according to project officials.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will virtually inaugurate the installation of the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) in the second unit of Rooppur NPP in Pabna from Ganabhaban today. Alexey Likhachev, director-general of Rosatom, Russia's Atomic Energy Organisation, will attend the ceremony along with other officials.

Highlights:

  • Overall progress over 50%
  • Second unit expected to be commissioned in 2025
  • Fuel for first unit to arrive in Bangladesh by next September

More cheap and reliable hydroelectric power may come from Nepal later on this decade.

Currently, Bangladesh imports 1,160MW of power from India through the Baharampur-Bheramara and Tripura-Cumilla cross-border grid lines. The cost is just a fraction of what BD is spending to generate it's own energy from its coal and gas power plants.

This is one of the reasons that BD economy is still powering ahead at more than 6% a year. If it was reliant on extremely expensive gas and coal fired power plants at home then economic growth would come crashing down due to high cost of imported coal and gas.
Long live India-BD-Nepal and soon hopefully Bhutan power co-operation.

"Nepal has advanced another step to attract Bangladeshi investment through joint ventures as its forest and environment ministry cleared the Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the proposed 683 megawatt Sunkoshi-3 hydropower project, reports The Kathmandu Post.

Referring to Madhu Bhetuwal, spokesperson for the Nepal energy ministry, the outlet reported that the authorities will share the report with the Bangladeshi side for its review.

"After that, the two sides are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on project development," reads the report."

God help us if BNP gets in - India will instantly cut it off.

Then we will be reliant of expensive gas/oil.

And that expense passed onto industry….poof goes the export growth.

Absolutely impossible for the current leadership in BNP to have any chance of widespread public support to topple BNP.

Roopur and imported cheap energy from/through India will power BD's world-beating GDP growth this decade till a new nuclear power station comes online by 2030 as already proposed by Hasina.
