65 and earlier, yes Pakistan was armed against the Soviet threat....Whereas India was armed for the sole intention of invading East Pakistan.


Those regions are geographically contiguous unlike former East Pakistan.

whatever might be intentions, same arms could be used against other nations. You think pakistan was receiving arms with an intention to fight soviets only?
Similarly soviets had no intention to dismember pakistan(as if India needed any prodding in that direction), they wanted a country on their side in cold war and were happy to have India. India obviously arming itself against china(after 62 debacle) as well as pakistan.

So yes, both sides were armed by big powers, but neither were helped directly after war started.

This is even more illogical. Pashtun, Baloch, Punjabi, these are different cultures, not to mention the Muhajir. That somehow works out presently, right ?

As someone who has been to Pakistan over 20 times I can categorically say that Pakistani Punjabis, Pashtun, Baloch etc are different ethnicities but the same race. Or very similar races. We are all together and not separated by 1000s of kms of landmass. As someone who has just come back from Pakistan recently and is aware of the ground realities there, the vast majority of Pushtun and Baloch are probably more patriotic with regards to Pakistan than even Punjabis especially now because of the successful start of CPEC.

Exactly. That is one big reason. Not the only one though. The Punjabis would have been up in arms as well even if the Pushtoons ever had any chance to make it to the majority.
It's just that Bengalis were a little more than half of the then population of Pakistan.

Yes, population is also a reason.

It is difficult but still possible to subjugate the majority which has taken up arms if the said region shares boundaries with the regions in which the minority resides.

If you are talking about cities then you are correct but if you travel to any village, the racial/cultural differences are there.

What is missing is that the Indian Army actually saved 1000s of Pakistani soldiers from the Mukti Bahini after the surrender. The Pakistanis should have been grateful for that. If I remember reading correctly, they were then given a radio each and used to build some roads.
