Well if you say somissile with launhtube, and when you ad the unit it is 36kg. Not 71 kg, try to understand.
Weight of the missile. 35kg (Inc launch Tube)
Weight of the launcher unit. 36kg
Come on who told you guys tow missile weight is 35kg
I looked up and come out with this
http://www.roketsan.com.tr/en/urunl...fuzeler/omtas-orta-menzilli-anti-tank-fuzesi/
The missile is 24kg and the missile and launch tube is 35kg you must add to that the launcher unit which is 36kg . it means 71kg
TOW missile is 21kg and its guidance set is 23kg also don't forget tow is shorter and that also help in its portability.
But let be honest not this system nor TOW is easy to operate and transport by infantry for them something like milan is a lot practical
I believe both of them are too heavy for infantry units and they must be used as fixed installment or on vehicles and helicopters .If you add tripod weight into calculation, You will be surprised about TOW missiles. The tripod weight of TOW is around 90kg.
How do you believe a system like TOW has less weight than OMTAS ?
I believe both of them are too heavy for infantry units and they must be used as fixed installment or on vehicles and helicopters .
By the way are you sure thats Omtas ? It's supposed to be 1.8m long that tube don't look to be more than 1.1 to 1.2m. Well unless the soldier is an NBA player.
both of them are too heavy for infantry units
Well that's something you can use for infantry unit and don't sacrifice mobility .For infantry, Roketsan develops a new and lighter missile called KaraOK.
- 110cm Length (108cm Javelin)
- 125mm Diameter (126mm Javelin)
- 25kg Weight (Missile + Launcher) (23,5kg Javelin)
- Tandem warhead
- Hybrid dual-stage rocket motor
- Lock on before/after launch
- Fire forget/update
Well that's something you can use for infantry unit and don't sacrifice mobility .
I wonder one thing that I could not find about these missile is how much they can penetrate . a Tow 2b can penetrate 900mm behind ERA. Do you have any data for these systems ?
So it's not for export ? Because I doubt you can sell it to foreign costumers if you don't give some specification in that regard. And that would be a waste as this system certainly sell well in foreign markets . it can easily compete and outperform systems like Tow as Tow-2b top attack profile is not satisfactory at all.Although It is given some figures for OMTAS/UMTAS tandem warhead in some source, It is a classified data so Turkish Army/Roketsan will never reveal such an important information to public.

Yes early design of Omtas had 8 middle fins later they change the design, new design has 6 longer fins but roketsan still uses old dummy missiles at fair (i dont know why because they changed it years ago)Oh and about the video something was strange at 34 second when it show missile launch in slow motion why it only have 4 wing at the middle instead of 8 ?
None of the products that Turkish Firms showcase in international defence fairs are exact replicas. A precaution against copycatting.Yes early design of Omtas had 8 middle fins later they change the design, new design has 6 longer fins but roketsan still uses old dummy missiles at fair (i dont know why because they changed it years ago)
believe me it's nearly impossible to copy a system by just looking at photos or the actual system at fairs , for that you really need detailed studying of the actual products or plans and detailed specifications .None of the products that Turkish Firms showcase in international defence fairs are exact replicas. Not all copying but studying aerodynamics, lens thickness etc...believe me it's nearly impossible to copy a system by just looking at photos or the actual system at fairs , for that you really need detailed studying of the actual products or plans and detailed specifications .
He actually knows this from a relative of his who is working in defense industry, i remember that he said even the location of the bolts are misplaced.believe me it's nearly impossible to copy a system by just looking at photos or the actual system at fairs , for that you really need detailed studying of the actual products or plans and detailed specifications .
