I had one question? The rohingya claimed that they are descendants of Arab Muslims who settled in Arakan in the 13th century and they are not bengalis. If that is the case then why are there Hindus amongst the rohingyas? Hinduism never existed amongst the Arabs and these rohingya Hindus resembles Bengali hindus in every sense.

Cox’s Bazar International University has suspended a girl student following media reports that she got admitted to the institution using fake identity and that belongs to the Rohingya community. Rohingyas, not being Bangladeshi citizens, are not allowed to enroll into formal educational institutions in the country.

Dr Abul Kashem, Vice Chancellor of the university, said the authorities have decided to suspend LLB(Hons) student Rahima Akhter alias Rahi Khushi following media reports identifying her as a Rohingya girl.

A three-member probe committee was formed on Saturday asking it to submit a report within seven days, the VC added.


Deutsche Welle (DW), a German international broadcaster, released a 1.32-minute video, showing Rahima taking interviews of Rohingya people and collecting data at a camp in Cox’s Bazar as an NGO worker.

According to the video released by DW, Rahima fled Myanmar to Bangladesh with her family in 1992 and was admitted to Baitush Sharaf Jobbaria Academy at Boilapara in Cox’s Bazar hiding her real identity as formal education of Rohingyas in Bangladeshi institutions is restricted. Mujibur Rahman, Trustee of the Cox’s Bazar International University, said Rahima passed SSC from Baitush Sharif Jabbaria Academy and HSC from Cox’s Bazar Government Women’s College.

Rahima was admitted to the university after receiving SSC and HSC certificates and national ID. The probe body report will be submitted to University Grants Commission (UGC) to take the final decision in this regard, Mujibur added.

Ibrahim Khalil, president of Prothom Alo Bondhushava, Cox’s Bazar district committee, said Rahima was the finance secretary of the committee and was suspended from the post on September 5 and later expelled as she failed to prove her Bangladesh nationality.

You will see still in West Bengal, Bengali is equivalent to Hindu broader cast and Muslims usually dont identify themselves as Bengali. And Hindus also dont call Muslims Bengali etc.

She falsified documents because the BD authority does not allow her to study. So, it is the govt fault. She did not steal any one's school certificate and impersonated her. She is a qualified girl who should be allowed to pursue higher study in the present identity.

They are south chittagonian. They are living there as long as chittagonians living in those places. And Chittagong was also Arakan. During part of partition their area just didnt come under chittagong border. British brought them, pirates brought them, they migrated, sultans brought them etc. As you can see the geographical border isnt clear here. All people migrated to all places since ancient time.

All the Rohingya children must get an education as per the laws of the land they are living in. The UN organizations should take the matter in their hand and arrange for her and other destitute Rohingyas to get a proper education.

She should be re-admitted to the College and helped with a stipend to pursue higher education of her choice.

Agree with this as well.The more educated the Rohingyas are, the less they will be inclined to do nefarious activities such as drug smuggling.
Instead of squandering the aid the Rohingyas got, we should spend it to set up school for both general & vocational schools in the camps for adults & children alike with help of UN & other such organizations.The more educated & conscious they are, they better they'll be able to present their case to international community.
Not only is it our duty as Muslims & as decent human beings, but also in BD's interest to make sure of that.

There are many Buddhist temples in Chittagong built by Arakanese people but the most famous ones are in Chitmorong and another in Cox's Bazaar which contains statues created with the holy relics of Lord Buddha.

I am a barua Buddhist and there are barua people in Myanmar also. They are called Marmagyi.

In my hometown there lived a Buddhist family from Arakan who possibly came in Chittagong in the 18th century but they left after partition.

She was suspended because she broke the law.
However, I believe she should be forgiven.Because she did what she had to do because of extenuating circumstances.

As a tribute Min Saw Mon adopted Muslim name Solaiman, gave Chittagong to the Sultan and accepted Arakan as vessel of Bengal.

Those 30000 soldiers also have made their own settlement in Arakan. The king brought many Muslim nobles who were Arab, Persian or Turkish by decent to the court along with many local Muslims.

So when Rohingya say there are descendent of Arabs that is not fully a false statement but partial truth.
