WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Rockwell Collins has received a $30 million contract to provide manufacturing and technical services for the Pakistan Air Force's fleet of C-130 aircraft.

In addition to technical support, training and installation services, the contract also includes the delivery of 11 C-130E model kits and five C-130B integrated avionics suites and kits. The company will also be tasked with developing a consolidated flight manual for C-130 E and B variants, as well as checklists and maintenance supplements to help the PAF sustain their fleet.

Work on the contract, which comes through a foreign military sale to Pakistan, will be performed at the Nur Khan Base in Islamabad.

C-130 aircraft are designed for transportation of troops, equipment and additional supplies, and are also used for humanitarian and disaster relief missions.

The undefinitized contract action was a sole-source acquisition. The labor will be conducted at Pakistan’s Nur Khan Air Force base, and should be finished by Dec. 31, 2020.

Air-frame enhancements through the model kits, upgrade certain mechanical aspects of the plan and put in newer and integrated avionics, replacing manual switches, etc. All these will extend the service life of the plane, will make it how the current C-130 jets are, work, and operate and will reduce a lot of pilot workload by adding digital systems.

Older C-130 cockpit and avionics are distributed in different places, and these are a big manual mess of hundreds of switches and buttons and levers. The newer layout will make it look and feel like flying an airbus or Boeing 767 type of jets. Google these two's cockpit pictures and you'll see what I am talking about.

Where did you see me saying that C-130's will be converted into JETS . Air-frame structural enhancements have NOTHING to do with the propulsion system, engines, or otherwise. You are strengthening the air-frame, not the engines. And you are adding digital avionics management like using MFD's to reduce pilot load. WTH does that has to do with propulsion?

Either read carefully or have a background with systems in discussion so you can sound smart. Silly countering someone's post without proper knowledge makes you look even sillier actually!!

1. Shaanxi Y-9 from China. PAF already has the similar Y-8F600, so inducting the Y-9 wouldn't require entirely new infrastructure for maintenance.

2. Antonov An-178 from Ukraine. Might be the most affordable of future non-Chinese options. Still in development.

3. Embraer KC-390. If the PAF wants a somewhat affordable Western platform, the KC-390 could be a viable option. It's still in development, won't enter service until around 2018.

Nothing much. The C-130 is a solid aircraft with a proven track record. Air forces all over the world love it. US is open to selling the C-130 to Pakistan, even the US Congress won't block the sale of this aircraft.

No mechanical/structural enhancements are included in these mods. Just avionics so that the C-130 can operate in International airspace on airways with commercial traffic (RVSM).

You've just compared a turboprop handling/flying to a jet here:

You should heed your own advice before criticising others.

A cockpit upgrade, as much as it may look like an airbus/boeing product will not alter the basic flying qualities of the C130 turboprop.

i dont know search the internet, i would assume the avionics are being swapped for digital avionics that are on the j varient of the c130 family

you forgot c130-j's, heck even congress will let it through.
