Rise of the drone industry: there are too many models of Chinese drones
Bladed military 2018-11-15 11:39:28

In the past week, with the Chinese Air Force as the leader, China's major aviation design and manufacturing enterprises have gathered in Zhuhai, bringing a “Zhuhai Air Show” with the “most information volume” for national military fans and aviation enthusiasts. In this year's air show, the dazzling array of all-in-one drones is even more dazzling, almost filling the entire Zhuhai airport. However, in addition to admiring the dazzling array of exhibits, these various types of raids that are close to the volume and positioning can not help but cause some little doubts: Which of the "factions" they belong to in Zhuhai to seek international orders? ? And what are the deeper considerations for competing with each other?

The picture shows an attack-2 reconnaissance and attack integrated drone with the Chinese Air Force's own number (white small print).

First of all, although the name of the "Attack-2" drone that represents the Chinese Air Force is unfamiliar, it is actually the "self-use type" of the "Winglong-2" unmanned aerial vehicle of AVIC Chengfei. After the "Attack-1" (Winglong-1), the second one won the bid for the Chinese Air Force's integrated drone. It is worth mentioning that whether it is the "Winglong" series that follows the footsteps of the United States, or the more daring "Cloud Shadow" of the technology span, it is the technical result of the self-financing of AVIC Chengfei. The details are very commendable.

The picture shows the “Cloud Shadow” jet detection and strike integrated drone at the Zhuhai Air Show.

Of course, compared to the "attack/Winglong" that has been equipped with more than 100 Chinese Air Forces and at least 5 foreign customers, the Cloud Shadow UAV has not confirmed order, but its stealth sawtooth design and turbojet engine are always enough. "gorgeous". However, at this year's air show, the Aerospace Eleventh Institute, which is a "mutual opponent" of the UAV's drone business, has come up with more compelling products, that is, the "Rainbow-7" stealth detection and strike drone using the flying wing layout.

The picture shows the Rainbow-7 Detective and Combat Integrated UAV of Aerospace Science and Technology (Aerospace 11 Institute).

Undoubtedly, the Rainbow-4 and the Winglong-1, which are similarly positioned as the Rainbow-4 and the respective "Zooming", are each a tit-for-tat opponent. Although the two sides have won each other's success in the foreign trade market, each has achieved results, but so far the "space department" has always lost in the Chinese Air Force's own competition, even the improved model "wind shadow" of AVIC Chengfei "Yunying" There are also signs of entering the Chinese Air Force. Under this circumstance, the "Rainbow-7" heavy bomb of the Aerospace Eleventh Institute is inevitably aimed not only in the foreign trade market, but also in the challenge signal of the "China Aviation System".

The picture shows the BZK-005E drone, and the words "Beihang" Pinyin are clearly visible.

AVIC Chengfei and Aerospace Eleventh are certainly the “golden signboards” of Chinese drones, but apart from these two signs, the Chinese drone family is still a “hundred flowers” scene, and R&D and manufacturers not only cover “ The two major sectors of aerospace and aviation include each chain of “production, study and research”: the BZK-005E drone exhibited by the North Aerospace Yuchangying, its predecessor BZK-005 is by AVIC Hafei and Beijing Aerospace. The university has jointly designed and designed its unique shape, which is known as “the highest ratio of lift to drag” and has long attracted attention.

So many enterprises, and even "production, study and research" have invested in the development and manufacture of drones, which will lead to the waste of aviation resources? The answer is no, because this phenomenon is essentially due to the pulling action of external orders. If a drone is not favored by foreign customers, it will naturally go to sink, no need to Go to "correction".

On the other hand, such a large UAV industry has quietly formed, and in fact has created a competitive environment that is in line with the "horse race mechanism". The cost of a good horse in which it stands out is significantly reduced: it is like competing with YF-23. After that, the F-22A really won. "Contrast" is not only the premise of the Air Force and other users "use comfort", but also the starting point for the latecomers to catch up with reflection. ( sharp edge / TO)

(利刃/TO)

I think there are too many UAV models produced by Chinese military and private companies.

A little bit too much, should focus on sevral key models.

Nope this isnt too many. Never say too many keep experimenting with newer designs thats called innovation

America did that during the aviation boom but eventually many companies merge and number of model dies down after US aviation matures.

do we have to do exactly what USA did? copy them? they didn't do that great that we copy them.
