Riots in Singapore

sure it must be a headache for the Singaporean

To be frank, most Singaporeans hate our PAP government. Few months back when hackers attack and deface our PAP government website, everyone cheer. Today, most people scold the Indian hooligan for 2 reasons.

1) The Indian expatriate here bully Singaporeans too much that we finally found a rally point. From the conduct of Indian rioters, you can gauge the true color of Indians. Many Singaporeans are sick of Indians. The PRC stage a strike, also first among 40 years in SG few months back. People here are more sympathetic to PRC, and claims that working conditions are bad. If the rioters are Bangala, Pakistani, or others, they may receive more sympathy.

2) There are too many foreigners in Singapore. PAP government know Singaporeans do not like them and PAP government naturalizes foreigners to ensure they win the election. With more foreigners, our wages got depress, our house got expensive, so much so that the fresh grad in Beijing salary is close to Singapore.

The complaints made by Singaporeans are a shot against government. Of course, many here do not like Indians (dono why, everyone we are ok with).

all right...settle down folks....read the latest news first....

Singapore: Singapore police have questioned nearly 4,000 foreign workers(they didn't say if they're Indian or not) in a widening crackdown following the city-state's first riot in more than 40 years, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Three more Indian nationals have been detained and will be charged later on Wednesday with rioting, in addition to 24 of their compatriots who were charged in court a day earlier with the same offence, which is punishable by up to seven years in jail and caning.

A police spokeswoman told AFP on Wednesday that so far a total of 176 men had been taken to a police complex to have their statements recorded, without providing details of their nationalities.(again,no mention of nationality.but almost all charged are Indians)

Four men hauled up on Tuesday were released after investigations showed they did not participate in the riot, while another was released on bail.

The hour-long fracas on Sunday night, triggered when an Indian construction worker was struck and killed by a private bus in the Little India district, left 39 police and civil defence staff injured.

25 vehicles -- including 16 police cars -- were damaged or set aflame by the estimated 400 South Asian migrant workers involved in the rampage.

The 55-year-old Singaporean bus driver who knocked down and killed Indian construction worker Sakthivel Kumaravelu, 33, has been released on bail after being charged with causing death by a negligent act.

Activists have urged authorities to investigate whether the violence on Sunday was an indication of wider discontent among poorly paid migrant workers.

Interior Minister Teo Chee Hean said police had increased their presence in foreign worker dormitories and places where they congregate around the city-state.

"Investigations will continue so that all those who have broken the law will be dealt with strictly, firmly and fairly in accordance with the law," Teo, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said in a statement late Tuesday.

Singapore's foreign ministry said it was working closely with the Indian High Commissioner (ambassador) "to facilitate consular access and support for their nationals, including legal representation".

The wealthy but tiny Southeast Asian nation of 5.4 million depends heavily on guest workers, with labourers from South Asia dominating sectors like construction.

There are nearly 700,000 foreign workers holding "work-permits", allowing them to work in certain sectors such as construction and shipping for two-year periods, subject to renewal, according to official data.

Sunday's riot was the second incident involving a large group of foreign workers in the past year.

In November 2012 171 Chinese bus drivers stopped work to demand better wages and living conditions -- the first industrial strike in Singapore since 1986.

Five of the drivers served jail terms after it was declared an illegal strike, while 29 others were deported without trial.

sure it must be a headache for the Singaporean

We mostly get the "educated" Indians in the US. "Educated" being all relative, but even then it's no picnic. I can't even begin to imagine having to deal with the uneducated Indians like the Singaporeans get.

for all of singaporeans here

not all indian is bad, not all Indian is good same with us Indonesian, or the Japanese, Chinese, and every one. Must use cool head to solve this matter and problems, just don't act on your whim

These Indians behave like animals.

Can't they act civilized for once?

Shameful behaviour by Indians.

Dirty people.

You have to forgive us as we never had a great leader like Mao to kick our billion butts with his cultural revolution and refine us. ;)

That is only solution, Singapore needs to expel indians and restrict their entry, otherwise indians will cause problem like in Malaysia.

Also, there are some indian origin tamil employed in government position, these indians are also source for indian reckless damn care and "indians own Singapore" attitude.

lol...kabhi tho dimaag se baat karo....here is indian contribution to singapore...

Indians have served as two out of six Presidents of Singapore, two out of four Senior Ministersand two out of nine Deputy Prime Ministers. At some point, Indians have been Ministers of almost all ministries, including Foreign Affairs and Finance. The only key posts Indians have not held are Prime Minister and Defence Minister. As of April 2008, Indians were over-represented in the Cabinet (4 cabinet ministers, or 20% of the total) as well as in Parliament among both elected (10.7%) and unelected MPs (20%).

In 2007, 12 out of 45 persons listed in the Singapore Academy of Law's senior counsel directory, or 26.7%, were Indian. In the Subordinate Courts of Singapore, 9.8% of all District Judges was ethnic Indian. Meanwhile, in the Supreme Court of Singapore, 14%, or two of the 14Supreme Court Judges and Judicial Commissioners, are Indian

Indians have traditionally served in the Singapore Diplomatic Service in disproportionate numbers. The Second Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Bilahari Kausikan, is Indian, as have been three of its five Ministers to date. As of March 2007, a survey of the Singapore Government Directory Interactive website showed about 27% of the heads of Singaporean diplomatic missions abroad were Indian, including heads of missions to the UN in New York and Geneva, High Commissioners to Malaysia and South Africa and Ambassadors to Belgium (de facto representative to the European Union) Germany, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

The Singapore Government Directory Interactive website showed that 13.3% of primary schoolprincipals were Indian, as were 10.3% of secondary school principals.

From 1979 to 2006, Indian Singaporeans have won 10, or 11.4%, of the 88 Cultural Medallions conferred, the highest honour to artists given by the Singapore government.

9.4% of the heads of Singapore's 64 statutory boards are Indian - these are the National Library

Board, Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, Hindu Endowments Board, Hindu Advisory Board and Sikh Advisory Board

just some indian contribution.....its your turn now @idune dekhao ki bagladeshi's ne kya ukhada hai

What, he wasn't even killed? Only knocked down by a bus?

I don't get how those foreign workers would riot over something so small as someone getting knocked down by a bus.

Nope. The Indian was killed. But the violence is uncalled for. Accidents happen everywhere.

One of the reason of high Indian representation in many of upper class Singapore is because the PAP government are fake Chinese. They are the mestizo Peranakan who despise and suspicious of Chinese culture and prefer to put the Anglicized Indian to top jobs.

The non-Anglicized Indian has no chance in our society.

The anglicization of Indians are more profound and have a longer history than Chinese or Malay. Initially British plan to have Indians control Singapore when they flooded most administrative top jobs with Indians, if they are not given to British.

But Indians later allied with Japanese and stabbed the British. The British made strategic mistake of kicking out a lot of them, especially the traitor Indian soldiers. British started to regret it and they settled for Lee Kuan Yew, a banana who have a vision to destroy Chinese culture and nothing else.

The whole Singapore is controlled by westernized bastard Chinese, the Peranakan. These fake Chinese prefer Indians than Chinese. But with the rise of China, it is increasingly uncertain how long the Peranakan group can protect USA/western interest.

Singapore is the most pro-western country in the whole of South East Asia, despite being a Chinese majority (true Chinese and peranakan is a very very tiny minority) country. The Peranakan in Singapore has done a lot of thing not just hurting the interest of Singaporean Chinese but the entire South East Asian Chinese as well.

They are the proxy of USA, willing to do the dirty jobs, even they are fully aware that USA is hostile and envy of Chinese economic power in South East Asia.

The area is called Little India not Little Bangladesh!!!!

It is a matter between Indian Embassy and Singapore, You people better not rant.

interesting, was unknow to me

I am a bit too strong in my words actually. But given a choice, our government will prefer to side with USA. Singapore even let host USA base to the detrimenting China's interest.

If Singapore is pro China, USA will not got a chance.

One thing our government did to hurt SE Asia Chinese is to shut down all Chinese schools, including the only Chinese university in SE Asia Nantah.

That anglicized the whole Singapore. In reality Singapore should be a very sinicized state where even minority learn Chinese. The anglicization is a result of PAP preserving the interest of colonial power. The removal of Nantah effective cut the most important source of Chinese learning in SE Asia.

What, he wasn't even killed? Only knocked down by a bus?

I don't get how those foreign workers would riot over something so small as someone getting knocked down by a bus.

People in that Area were drunk and are there watching this incident, the dead guy fell under the rear wheel of the bus and he shouted loudly before dying.

This made people angry and riots followed.

Actually there is also a certain anger against Indians nationals and the PAP government for flooding them. If the rioters are some other tribes, we may not be that angry.

A lot of Singaporeans got harass by Indians and even the local Indians hate Indian nationals. The locals are scion of the low caste and the new comers are Brahmins.
