Polls-time govt minus Hasina?
AL toys with the idea
Hasan Jahid Tusher

The ruling Awami League might be agreeable to forming an interim government headed by a lawmaker other than Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to oversee the next parliamentary elections.
Several ministers and leaders of the AL had earlier said Hasina would lead the polls-time government.

“The prime minister has said she will be ready to sacrifice a lot if the main opposition BNP joins the interim government,” a top policymaker of the ruling party told The Daily Star.
According to AL insiders, this means a ruling party lawmaker is likely to lead the interim government.

Insiders say the names of LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury are being speculated for the job if the premier skips it.

AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday said the choice of chief of the interim government would be finalised through discussions.

“We only talked about the election-time government system. We haven’t mentioned any names,” Ashraf told a press conference held at Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi.

Asked who would head that government, Ashraf questioned in turn, “What is the problem if I become its chief?”

The press conference was convened to inform reporters of the decisions taken at Friday’s meeting of the AL Central Working Committee, the highest decision-making body of the party, which unanimously adopted an official position of “no more caretaker government again”.

The AL spokesperson urged the BNP to join parliament to take part in the discussions on a framework of the election-time government.

“The prime minister has given a practical proposal [to the opposition] for coming to parliament,” he added.

On sending the opposition an invitation for a dialogue, the LGRD minister said the premier had invited the opposition to the dialogue to place its proposal about the formation of a polls-time government. But the opposition had instead issued a 48-hour ultimatum to overthrow the government, he added.

The main opposition has been demanding a restoration of the caretaker government system for months and enforcing hartals and other agitation programmes to realise the demand.
Ashraf reiterated that the interim government would be formed with elected representatives from all parties.

Seems the ruling AL has many mouths to suggest many opinions. Hasina says she will be the poll time PM. Ashraful says, no, some one other than Hasina will take over.

I wonder if the ruling party itself is confused or its leaders are intentionally confusing the opposition group so that their leaders keep on holding meeting after meeting to discuss new proposals one after another.

This is how the opposition loses its momentum for agitation and street demonstration as many of its central leaders lose focus and they keep on shifting their opinions without knowing this may be the sole intention of AL.

Nasty and insincere AL is trying to confuse and break the unity of the opposition group by saying many things at the same time.

Another Awami League deception packaged by Daily star. Recent public opinion poll already indicated 90% of population want non party interim govt for elction to be held. Awami League politicized every institutions, adminstration, election comission with Awami League party thugs and media is gagged. In such fascist, autocratic environment having election under any formula is just another ploy to rubber stamp visible and invisible Awami League election hijacking formula.

AL is in serious dilemma. What to do? What not to do? But what ever they will do,the result we already know.unless nation wakes up from this nightmare, AL will be here for next 5 years.and most probably I will post this same message again after 5 years.

Even if AL is not in power next time the country will see similar nightmares. Many of us saw these nightmares in 2006. AL is probably returning the favor it received in 2006 in different forms, such as, the BNP-created voter list had 83 million voters that came down to only 70 million when the CTG cancelled that fictitious voter list and compiled a new one.

13 million false BNP voters? This novel BNP planning was conceived by the half-educated Tareque.

Now, the country has again come back to square one. Only the roles of the two political parties have reversed. To avoid another nightmare in 2018, we may need some other politicians to lead us.

What's going to happen if BNP & Co. doesn't agree to anything less than a non-political interim govt?

1. Hasina is v clear in her objectives. She will hand over to an interim administration composed of all parties in parliament according to their strength in that body. She will not involve any unelected people in the interim administration. Sounds quite logical. But that will give BNP 1 out of 10 posts. The interim PM may be SHW again, or the Dy Leader Sajeda of the House or even the Dy Speaker Col Shawkat who has never scolded BNP members.

2. Obviously BNP will reject this formula when declared in the open. Might also refuse to take part in elections. But SHW shall move ahead never-the-less. And she will surely win because the entire civil and mily administration will continue to be hers. And she has also got the EVM machines to re-insure. Being computers, EVMs can be pre-programmed. As such not even developed nations use them.

3. Continued anarchy awaits BD. Hasina doesn't care about deaths or destruction. Khaleda may have exhausted her cards for the moment.

@ The voter list was not made by BNP rather it was made by AL in 2001 before the election. Once Caker Taker Govement came they deleted many voter lists and then election was held. BNP knew that there were many many fake voters who are infact staying in India but never came to Bangladesh. They are the decendents of those 50 lacs of non-muslims who fled or migrated to India in 1947 and 1971.

@ Poor BNP once came to power after getting absolute majority in 2002 wanted to retify the voter list. Soon they started to make a new voter list but it was at once stopped by the High Court. This writ petition was made by the Awami Leaquers. The High Court gave the verdict that there is no need of making a new voter list, however, it can be modified. No voter's name to be deleted unless it is properly varified. So, it remained as it is and the half done list made by BNP was never included in the main voter list. Thanks to military regime once they came to power they made a complete new voter list with a photo. But this military regime was also not fair regarding the conduct of general election.

@ THe fake voter list was not made by the BNP rather it was AL with the help of members of "Junottar Muncho" .

@ About leading the nation or politician in 2018, I think a cleaver man like eastwatch will be the right choice !!!!!!

As mentioned above-return of 96.

But BNP is not Awami League and vice-versa. BAL can hold election with Ershad and baam-bums participating and then form govt, BNP can do nothing except whimpering and whining with no-one really listening as long as the media keeps supporting BAL just by maintaining silence.

Forget election altogether. Just heard, new lc rule,PM will remain PM until the election is done under her supervision and another PM is elected accordingly by election commission. Which means its her again.

Media has not yet forgotten what BNP was in 2006. Even if BNP won the next election it will be because of negative voting by the electorates. Both the bitches and both the parties should not be allowed to play games any more.
