Link doesn't work bro.

Is this the revised RFI for the FICV I wonder? According to TATA the MoD were going to issue a revised RFI for the FICV within a few months.

@Water Car Engineer
i dont know why its not working. I m uploading pics of rfi

Breaking & Thumkar Exclusive: Indian Army Seeks its Own Armata - Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV)

The newly unveiled Russian Armata tank

The Indian Army plans to design and develop a futuristic combat vehicle called the Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV) to replace the T-72 tanks of the Armored Corp starting 2025-27. [RFI]

This tracked fighting vehicle would feature a modular design that will be leveraged to create a family of combat vehicles.

The FRCV's modular design would be flexible to an extent where it can be configured to operate in varying terrain.

The following variants are planned to be developed on the FRCV platform:

  1. Tracked Main Battle Tank - Primary variant.
  2. Tracked Light Tank.
  3. Wheeled Version.
  4. Bridge Layer Tank (BLT).
  5. Trawl Tank and Mine Ploughs.
  6. Armored Recovery Vehicle (ARV).
  7. Self Propelled Artillery Gun/Howitzer.
  8. Air Defense Gun/Msl System.
  9. Artillery Observation Post Vehicle.
  10. Engineer Reconnaissance Vehicle.
  11. Armored Ambulance.
  12. FRCV Development Process

The FRCV has been conceived as a Design and Development project, to be executed in three stages as under:

  1. Design Stage.
  2. Prototype Development Stage.
  3. Production Stage.

The FRCV would be required to conduct sustained continuous operations by day and night in all weather conditions in terrain and temperature ranges obtaining on India’s Western borders.

The FRCV should be in the `Medium Tank’ category whose physical dimensions should facilitate transportability over existing terrain, in-service military bridges and major civilian infrastructure (including bridges) in the border areas (on either side of the Western border).

Crew

The number of crew members should be such that they can perform their
designated tasks, and operate all on-board systems without hindrance and without any overlapping of duties/ responsibilities.

Fire Power

Should be well matched to contemporary MBTs in engagement ranges, all weather day/night fighting capability, depth of penetration and variety of ammunition.
Should have very high accuracy [High FRHP (First Round Hit Probability)] and very high lethality [High SSKP (Single Shot Kill Probability)], at par with contemporary MBTs.

Protection.

Should provide very high all-round protection, including ballistic, active and any other form of anti-armor technologies, to ensure survivability in the contemporary and future battlefield.
Should incorporate signature reduction technologies.
High response evasion/ anti-detection system.

Mobility

Should have adequately high power-to-weight ratio to enable all on-board systems to be run simultaneously, without disrupting the agility and mobility of the vehicle.
Should have high operating range, comparable to contemporary MBTs

Hmmmm, this is most strange and unexpected.

It doesn't seem to be the FICV at all but a light tank the IA is looking for to replace their T-72s. I didn't realise this was on the IA's radar for the immediate future, I just hope the private sector are invited to participate from the outset (almost certainly they will be if this has been drawn up under the new DM/GoI). This is pretty big news.

So Arjun has no future now.. A global RFI for Indian Armata.. DRDO will be very pissed.

I dont get this . Will it act as fmbt or entirely new project. What about arjun mk2 and ficv?

I am pretty sure the FRCV is entirely separate from the Arjun and even FMBT projects, the FRCV is to replace the T-72s, the Arjun is to supplement the T-90s and replace the T-55s and the FMBT is to eventually replace the T-90s and Arjuns.

The Arjun has a future for sure- it is meeting the IA's immediate needs whilst the FRCV and FMBT will meet their needs of the future.

I've posted above what my opinion is. However the FICV is a separate thing all together- that is for the "battlefield taxis". The FICV project should be restarted very soon.

I dont understand.... not so long ago(2011 if i'm not wrong) they have upgraded the T 72 tanks . why are they thinking of replacing them?
Upgrades are only relevant for so long. The FRCV won't be entering service for at least another decade, by then the T-72s will be well beyond their prime and on their last legs needing to be replaced ASAP. More than likely the T-72's replacement will be Indian-made meaning the majority of Indian armour by 2030 will be of Indian origin (the last foreign units will be the T-90s).

This is an RFI for the Future Ready Combat Vehicle based on the modular concept, meaning a common chassis/platform for a number of vehicle types. This is ideal for standardization which will be extremely cost effective.

Reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) are three system attributes that are of tremendous interest to systems engineers, logisticians, and users. Collectively, they affect economic life-cycle costs of a system and its utility.

This standardization concept has been followed by the Russians since WWII. Take for example the Russian Armata. This is a Universal Combat Platform for the advanced NG Heavy Military Tracked Vehicle Platform. This Armata platform is the basis of theT-14 tank, the T-15 AFV, a Combat Engineering Vehicle, an ARV, a heavy APC/ICV, a tank support combat vehicle and several types of SP artillery under the same codename based on the same chassis.

It is also intended to serve as the basis for AD and NBC defense systems. The new Armata tank platform is meant to replace the older Russian MBTs and APCs that are currently used by the Russian military.

So I think what we're doing is to follow the Russian concept of having a common platform for all combat vehicle types.

Here are some examples...

In global RFI, designers from various western countries may pitch in their designs. Is there a chance of JV to make a single Design for many countries..?

How about reviving Tank Ex? It appears to be an ideal solution for upgrading the Indian Army’s vast and aging T-72M1 fleet.

What is this non sense? Wheeled version?

There'll be FICV for that. I think this is another example of the army being crazy.

I think its going to be a Light Tank which can be used on various terrain.same platform, but different use(Tracked & Wheeled Light Tank Variants,BLT,ARV,Mine Plows etc)..But I don't understand one point...MBT??How the F they're going to make same tank a MBT and a Light Tank??

A Platform of this kind, like say Centauro, doesn't have an MBT variants. They generally gets what its called a "Anti Tank" variants..possibly a 120 mm or 125 mm Main Gun,but main difference is it lacks same level of protection of a MBT.
