Reusable hypersonic BRAHMOS should be developed: Dr. Kalam

Congrats Bro!! Please stay in India only and contribute to the growth of motherland.
Regards

Thanks bro.I want to do my honours in Aerospace Engineering so that I will become a fighter pilot in the IAF and if my class-12 results is chemistry oriented then I will take up Nuclear Science. I will not leave my motherland at any cost and I will serve India till my death.

er...okay, back to the topic.

How does this "reusable" cruise missile work exactly? I have never heard of such term.

I would assume as a weapons platform drone. The US has done experiments with ram-jets, but I know of no weapon that is releasable at such speeds, wait and see.
(besides "rocks")

I hope you remain the same idealist after getting your Aeronautical/Nuclear degree.

PS: You don't exactly need an Aeronautical degree to become pilot in IAF.

Well a missile can deliver the payload & return back, at least in principle. But how ther hell are we gonna land it back safely at the launcher?
Weird.

BrahMos Aerospace Is working On Reusable Missile

VISAKHAPATNAM: After successfully testing and absorbing into the defence system the world leader — 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile — India is all set to develop a more advanced hypersonic reusable missile, which will go to target, deliver the warhead (attack the target) and return to the base.

"We are studying the project and the missile system, when developed, could cruise to the enemy's target at a maximum speed of mach-4," said A. Sivathanu Pillai, BrahMos Aerospace Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. He was addressing students of the Andhra University College of Engineering on "Indian Aerospace Programme - present and future." Mach is the speed of sound and one Mach is approximately 1,238 km per hour at sea level (the speed of sound depends upon the atmosphere through which it travels).

While BrahMos is the supersonic cruise missile, which travels at 2.8-3 Mach, the new missile may travel at 4 Mach, which is why it is called hypersonic.

Dr. Pillai said there were plans to develop hyper planes for defence forces, which could travel four times faster than sound.

They are not talking about Landing Back the missile safely at Launcher , Its Impossible atleast today , But They are Talking abt A missile Which can deliever Its warhead , Then Return to base and can be recovered by some Means. They Are Already Working on This.

Yes I will remain the same even after my degree. Its my dream to fly as a fighter pilot and will be a fighter pilot of my country.I love aero science so i will opt for it.I promise that in the near future you will see me in IAF colors.

I meant the same. We are talking here about 'hypersonic' missile. how will it deccelerate and then 'safely' come to rest to be able to retreive & reused? Maybe, using parachutes it can be done. But imagine a war scenario, where scores of hostile missiles as well as these returning brahmos will confuse the AWACS.

May Be It will change Its Path after Delievering The warhead and Then deacclerate and TheN recovered by chute or something , But They are Working On this and They Know Better Than Us.Hope this thing will be cleared In coming days.

ISRO is developing the AVATAR UCAV which is hypersonic and is reusable so if a Brahmos-2 Hypersonic is developed,it will also work on the same principle as Avatar.

Also we will need a whole team of specialists to go after the missile (most probably in the open areas of Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal or Thar desert), taking into account that there is no 100% guarantee of safely retrieving the missile... a logistical nightmare during wartime.

We better concentrate on UCAVs

That is a UAV platform.

I don't know...launching a missile at Mach 5-7 sounds almost impossible

Not Impossible ,

They have already Achieved speed of Mach 5

Brahmos 1 Has speed of Mach 2.8 to 3.0. , The fastest In world , Three times faster Than American Counterpart Harpoon.

BrahMos II is a hypersonic cruise missile that has Already been lab tested with a speed of Mach 5.26 that will make it the fastest cruise missile in the world beating Brahmos 1.It will be Worlds First Hypersonic Cruise Missile.

Donno About Reusable Missile Thing , But India -Russia have been working On it since 2007.
