Resolution in US House to deny visa to Modi - The Times of India

WASHINGTON: A bipartisan Congressional resolution has been introduced in the House of Representatives calling on the US government to continue the policy of denying a visa to BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on the grounds of religious freedom violations.

The resolution also called on India to protect the rights and freedoms of religious minorities and asked the US government to include the matter as part of bilateral the strategic dialogue.

The resolution introduced by Congressmen Keith Ellison from the Democratic Party and Joe Pitts from the Republican Party and co-sponsored by over a dozen other lawmakers, calls on the State Department to continue the policy of denying Modi, the Gujarat chief minister, a US visa.

In 2005, Modi was denied a diplomatic visa and his existing tourist and business visa was revoked under the Immigration and Nationality Act, which makes a foreign government official responsible for severe violations of religious freedom ineligible for a travel document.

"This resolution's strong bipartisan support shows that the rights of religious minorities in India are a priority for the US Congress," said Ellison after introducing the resolution which has been sent to the House Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee on Asia and the Pacific for necessary action.

As per Congressional records, a significant majority of resolution do not go beyond the Congressional committees.

"All Indians should have the right to practice their faith freely, or to change their faith if they so choose. India is big enough for all its citizens. Its best leaders have worked to promote unity among its diverse populations, not division," Ellison said in a statement.

What? Is this even a serious statement?

Why are the rights of religious minorities in India a priority for the US Congress?

I posted his article to highlight a few points.

1. It shows the Christian character of US and their desire to insult and denigrate Hindu leaders and Hindu India. Modi as a Hindu Nationalist and a leader of Hindutva is given special consideration for this sustained Hate campaign by their christian leaders. Their agenda is Religious and communal in nature.

2. No such visa restrictions exist for leaders of other nations where religious freedom is seriously compromised ...eg. Saudia Arabia, China etc..

3. It also shows US unhealthy interest in the internal matters of India and shows how they use US policies to interfere in Internal matters of India and their lack of respect for the choices the people of India make.

4. This is serious because this is a direct attack on the people of India and our leaders. It is a serious attack on our dignity and respect.

5. Congress and other 'secular' cheer leaders who egg on the US need to realise the danger they are posing to India and Indians by their anti National behavior and actions. Letters by congress leaders to the US is an e.g. of how they are selling India's self respect for narrow political gains.

6. India needs to realize the dangers of US sponsored Christian evangelists which seeks to undermine the very existence of India and corrodes India from within like termites.

Unless Indians irrespective of religious and 'secular' barriers do not understand the danger that US represents, they will blindly continue to be cheer leaders of this communal christian nation and will continue to undermine India, both within and before the world community.

That's called as Amreekan rectal irritation !

If Amreekans would continue this stand against NaMo, they will be the losers in longer term, once he becomes our PM ! No more defence deals

Its a shame US has not passed any resolution offering free US visa or green-card for 'victims' of religious persecution in India :p:

Surely that is much for effective than denying visa to Modi. :cheesy:

Keith Ellison is a Muslim.

Thank you for that. I just checked and it turns out he is a neo sunni muslim.

I guess this Anti-Hindu agenda brings christians and muslims together. :cheesy: ............an enemy of my enemy principle one would guess.

There is greater awareness now after Rajiv Malhotra's Breaking India. Congress and the seculars are going to get their comeuppance soon enough for all the anti-national activities they have been involved in.

Barely. Most Indians still think that US is acting from the 'goodness of their heart' and that defending Hinduism and Hindus is 'communal'.

Defending Hindus and Hinduism makes you saffron terrorist and RSS chandi wala or Religious nut case. That is the extend Indians have been brainwashed and subjugated.

There was an earlier post where an Indian had asked the religion of a Modi hater, later he was attacked by the 'secular' brigade and made to apologize for asking a legitimate question. That pretty much sums up status of Hindus in India and the triumph of Anti Hindu "seculars" in India.

one thing is for sure If Narendra Modi becomes PM, India would be counted as one of the most anti-US country in the world.

That would be providing needless importance to the US.

I would rather have Indian policies become pro India and pro Hindu when NaMo becomes PM.

Modi is a religious radical. The guy massacred millions of Muslims because they were following a different religion to his Hindu extremism.

I would say Hindu extremism is on par with Islamic extremism and Christian extremism as the 3 biggest threats to this world.

I've seen the behaviour of ultra-jingoistic Hindu members on this forum. Can't say they are that much different to radical Islam and evangelical Christianity.
