Prime Minister Imran Khan has said remittances from overseas Pakistanis has reached 2,768 million dollars in July this year.

Sharing a good news about Pakistan's economy in a tweet, PM Imran said that remittances in the month of July are highest ever amount in one month in the history of Pakistan.

He added that this is 12.2 percent increase over the month of June this year and 36.5 percent increase over July last year.

We generally receive more remittances in the month fo EID, every year.

Our Millions of unemployed youth are also an asset. Current govt has done a lot to provide them employment overseas. This is an area where no work was done by any previous govts. Current govt regulated overseas employment which is yielding positive results. Sometimes microeconomics changes take time but their benefits are enormous. We dont have some high value products to export and industries dont develop in couple of years. Selling garment and agri products can give us just so much so be happy with whatever revenue we get rather than shaming others.

Right now, obviously remittances are important in terms of supporting millions of families in Pakistan and driving a good chunk of the economy, but doesn't there need to be more of a governmental emphasis on structural economic reform?

Essentially, Pakistan is relying on output produced and income received externally, i.e., there simply isn't the economic capacity to be able to provide these workers the same level of wages or even enough jobs to cater for all of these workers. Granted, the government would not want to change the formula for those already working outside Pakistan, but what about those in Pakistan and fuyure generations? Forget about the population and think of your foreign policy and strategic objectives, how are you looking to achieve those when your sovereignty is compromised?

This is not a thread for it, but I believe this needs to be taken on a war footing and the very first step required is enough funding allocated to provide the right education to everyone across the country, including marginalised areas. Families who can't afford children to go to school (either due to no money or their child being the breadwinner) should be given a stipend to compensate for this. Until the mindset, morals and work ethic of the population doesn't change, how do you aspire to grow beyond loot and plunder?
